That means it is now compulsory that I release something or do something "spectacular"!!!
#143151 - simonjhall - Wed Oct 17, 2007 11:38 am
Is that different to the top posting thing you've got going on in your sig? ;-)
I'm languishing at position #19...

I'm #7. I wish I wasn't. I'm such a freak.

^_^ Well when I had about 300 posts I vowed [to myself] not to post until I anticipated a public project, but I've just never got round to one. Being one of the top 5 posters makes it almost compulsory to have some major sort of release or at least contribution.
I've written a few collision detection methods for lines and circles ... I'm sure I'll think of something, it just has to require minimal time....
... ... ...
... ...
...

Ah don't worry. I think about that myself some times... However you can be sure you're never going to be the #1 poster - I think tepples has that post covered! ;-)

I guess #14 out of 9000 isn't so bad. And hey, I'm on the first page when sorted by join date too :)
(ok, I'm way at the bottom of it, but still...)
And yes keldon, you should release something. Maybe write some tutorials? Especially if you like collision detection, that seems to be one of the hardest topics to find good information on.

And to think I thought a "top poster" was one who writes a reply above the quoted text.
I admit it, I'm a freak with screwed-up priorities. I haven't done anything spectacular except a few puzzle games, a few libraries (including GBFS, which is still included with libnds; ironically it's a GBA library), and occasionally making a complete fool of myself on this board. I attribute some of that to spreading myself too thinly across web boards and across homebrew platforms (Allegro, NES, GBA, DS).
Eventually, I want to get the **** away from remaking Tetris over and over again. So what kind of GBA or 2D DS game would you like to see me attempt to develop next?

Sorry to say it, but can we have TOD for the DS please ^_^ I think it's that your version of Tetris plays so well that it just has to be done.
Tutorials, sounds like my area! As for collision detection, the best tutorials related to it are all in the Tonc tutorials under the information about vectors!!! Okay, so it doesn't mention collision detection, but if people go through that text first the whole thing is easier - but nonetheless I think I have a good way to get it across to a beginner.
So second to an app, tutorials seems like a good back up activity.

Hm, #21, not bad I guess. Just moved up from 22 above HtheB with my 700th post. Out of my boredom, I created this chart in Excel: [Images not permitted - Click here to view it]
I found that the power function worked best as a trend line. Congratulations, Simon! Your number of posts is the closest to the trend line out of all of us!
I've never been this involved in a community. I wonder what I could contribute...
I am currently attempting to learn C++, although I kinda stalled out when trying to understand the windows API, none of those darn tutorials tell me what the heck I'm doing with all those parameters!

Well, the next choice is obvious! Pentis. No people, its not called pentris.
Just that, if you want to do an original 2D game, please don't do a fantasy/side-scrolling/anime-based/shoot-em-up/zelda/platformer/only-a-story-so-far-because-I-don't-know-how-to-program.
But I really don't think I have any trouble with that; I see you coming up with your own original puzzle game, sadly for which I have no ideas.

All these tutorials inspires me to try to right all of their wrongs! I'm firing away at ideas and I could go the route of a a single operation, or an operation incorporating many mini things.
Hmm ... ok, the date is set for January 6th 2008 for me to release my site!

LOL!
What I really want to see is a posts-per-day chart to really see who spends too much time on here... That would also allow me to estimate projected dates of when I'm going to overtake #18...and when you're going to overtake me!

After that we'd need also a chart with finished projects per posts by user ratio. Just to see if the users posting less are actually more productive. :)

Gee, I'm not even in the top 10 anymore. I'll have to start posting more. Maybe if I spam OffTopic posts like this one, I can get back up there.

That's my plan. I'm still down at #50, just barely on the first page. But I guess that's because I mostly just lurked for the first year or two of being around here.

Having less posts is a good thing IMO

Tepples, I'm gunning for you. Now just let me get this Perl script fired up...

Do you mean "any of the above" or "all of the above"?

And if your posts don't contribute, watch my Python squeeze the life out of your Perl.

I meant all of the above, I wouldn't mind seeing just one of those, except maybe a zelda spoof/clone, or something off of an anime show/comic.
