#158164 - (sniper) 109 - Fri Jun 06, 2008 2:18 am

Im looking for a simple editor like my doom wad editor"wintex"for editing nes rom's, but i can't find a descent one anywhere.

Example
http://www.teamhellspawn.com/utils.htm

All I really want is a program to merge into a rom and edit the sprites.
Any help is appreciated.

It's been a while since I've worked with Nes games. If this isn't what you are looking for, please reply as such & I'll see what else I can dig up.

Do you want to edit the CHR in an NES rom? Try my NES tools.

Which exe were you using? Were you double-clicking the exe, or were you dragging a rom onto the exe, or were you running it from the command line?

For graphics editing, I use YY-CHR. Still prefer the old DOS Tool, Tile Layer, but that doesn't work on Windows.
Be sure to add YY-CHR to a virus scanner's exclusions list, because every so often, it becomes misdetected as a virus for a while.

I find DosBox very good for old DOS software (applications and [even "3D"] games.)
You should give it a try! :^D

I do use Dosbox to get Tile Layer running, it's just a royal pain to run Dosbox, type in the Mount commands, then start Tile Layer. Dosbox is also a big CPU hog, even when it's minimized.

You might find D-Fend Reloaded (DosBox frontend) useful. :^)

Please try it from the command prompt. It might be spitting an error message on standard output, which you can read if you start it from the command prompt. I would like to know more details about the nature of the problem with 8TED on your machine so that I can try to fix it for you.

@Dwedit:
You can type the commands to run in the [autoexec] section of dosbox.conf. Also, you may want to try different cycles settings to avoid dosbox becoming a CPU hog.

Nothing makes it work,i already had dos box for my old school games like doom, quake, blake stone and wolfenstein and i tried all the editors from silent_code's page none worked out for me
ill either give up or ask someone else do it for me

btw
for my doom3 ds project i had a dream last night,
anyway could someone put a picture of the uac pda from doom3 on the bottom screen of dsdoom. If its not too much too ask, just photo of it too replace the map on the bottom screen.

Cus i tried to make one with a wad and it did'int work everytime i put it on it just go black screened when you load the game.

If you drag and drop random.exe onto the DOSbox.exe file (or a shortcut to it) DOSbox will launch, mount the C:\ drive to the folder random.exe is in, and start random.exe. Of course if you need to supply arguments this won't work as well, but for my purposes it's easy enough to pin a shortcut to DOSbox on my Start menu and drag and drop that way.

Or you could use the autoexec thing as ninjalj described.

You made me think and try. Dragging a random folder onto DOSbox does all but the last step, letting you start random.exe with any parameters you want yourself.

I hate to repost this, but "D-Fend Reloaded" is a very cool frontend for DosBox (the install even includes DosBox), which gives you a nice overviews of settings and has already some preset available. Easy to configure and you can have profiles for every application you want to run in DosBox.
Peace out.

I'm uploading a new version of 8TED compiled with a new version of Allegro. Please test it.
