OffTopic > Add Avatar and Smiles Support For Our Board

#173134 - nathanpc - Tue Mar 23, 2010 8:45 pm

Hello,
I like avatars and smiles because you can show a little bit of you on them, also it's very good, as they make the forums much more colourful and happy. Then I want to suggest the administrators to activated the checkbox that they is unchecked on the Admin CP. ;)

Best Regards,
Nathan Paulino Campos

The admins have stated before that it's a purposeful decision to not include avatars/signatures/etc. Many of us here appreciate that -- I don't enjoy forums full of distracting animations.

I wasn't saying about animations, also what is the problem with a 32x32 maximum for avatars, and disable the other things as it's already.

I just like to have a avatar. :)

I have a second suggestion now, activate all the "distractions"(as you've said), but put some options on the User CP that he can choose to see avatars. And put this option as desactivated by default, just if the user really want, he goes there and change this option.

No thank you. I like it nice and plain. Makes it much easier to help and browse without anime boobies bouncing all over the place.

god, please no avatars or smileys...

If the forum has survived 7+ years without annoying avatars and blinking whatnots, I think we should probably leave it as it is...

(^I'm with them)

We used to have images and all that nonsense back when the forum first started.

+1 to keeping it "as is." Why mess with a good thing?

But what just add a checkbox on the User CP, where the user can check if he wants or not to see the avatars?

Put as default unchecked, as people here tend to dislike them.

#174454 - Rajveer - Sun Jun 13, 2010 9:51 pm

No point, nobody here would switch it on so nobody but you would be able to see your avatar ;)

#174467 - vuurrobin - Mon Jun 14, 2010 12:44 pm

It doesn't really matter to me, but I do think that alot of people are overreacting a bit. there are billions of forums that have images enabled without them being distracting, and I doubt that people here will use distracting images.

I'm pretty sure that you can only enable still avatars, so no animated stuff can be used. and having avatars can help keep people apart more easier than names can.

unless I'm mistaken and there is a whole groep of 15 year olds just waiting for a change to upload anime boobs to the forum...

One little problem, we have a few users with signatures like "I wanna ram a broomstick up your ass". I don't want to see their avatars or signature images.

There's also the question of what would motivate the admins to go through a lot of trouble to get a feature they don't want in the first place.
