Would it be possible for gbadev.org and dsdev.org to set up rss feeds for the news items? I'm not sure of the news posting system in use but most of the popular ones have simple to configure RSS addons that would be easy to implement. Is this feasible at all?

|

This RSS stuff seems to be pretty big lately. But, I don't really understand, what's the draw?
#27568 - tepples - Fri Oct 15, 2004 9:11 pm
Other programs can include gbadev.org headlines in their view by reading the RSS feed from gbadev.org.
However, it'd be wise to generate the RSS feed to a static file periodically and then serve that file in order to save processing time on the server.

Sorry to revive old topic, but it fits:
Is it possible we could get an RSS feed on the forum? There are many RSS plugins for phpBB, it would be nice, that would I could 'subscribe', to a particular forum, or a particular topic (I know I can do single topics via email, but I prefer RSS so I can keep all my news stuff in the same place)

It's been over a year, with no response, so I'm gonna request it again :)
I've set up RSS feeds on phpbb before, let me know if you need any help.

I would love to have an RSS feed of the forum. I know this is an old thread, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask again. I'd be cool with a simple feed of the whole forum in general, kinda like http://forums.devkitpro.org/search.php?search_id=active_topics but just in RSS form. Hey, maybe the devkitPro forum could do this too!
The phpBB RSS module probably handles all this. I have no clue.

The site admin doesn't do much...pretty much makes one post every six months or so. And forget about any additions to the site, http://dsdev.org/ hasn't been updated in nearly 4 years.

Right. Not really much point to an RSS feed. Even the last gbadev.org post was posted 9 months ago in January.
It's a shame, since it's seems a great site for homebrew news.

I meant an RSS feed here on the forum (forum.gbadev.org), not the website (www.gbadev.org). The forum is fairly active still and phpBB even has an RSS module according to josath.

The point is that the admin isn't much online anymore ......

Interestingly enough, neither are most of the moderators.

Maybe we can ask one of the moderators who are still online of they can contact de admin for the creation of a new team for this website and forum ?

My bad.
It'd still be nice to seem some action on the main website. There are enough homebrew announcements that it wouldn't be too much work to sift through and occasionally post the new releases on the front page.
Erm... and a forum RSS feed would be alright, too. :)
#170810 - gauauu - Wed Oct 21, 2009 2:56 pm
Well, as far as I know, they purposely limit the front page announcements to GBA games, instead of putting both GBA games and DS games.
Has anybody released a new GBA game on here recently to test whether new game announcements are getting posted?
#170816 - Kayvon - Wed Oct 21, 2009 4:22 pm
The sister website, www.dsdev.org, hasn't been updated in about the same amount of time. (Clicking "forum" on that site also brings you here.)
#170826 - SimonB - Wed Oct 21, 2009 10:21 pm
I check the forum, if not daily at least a couple of times a week. I see other mods online quite often too so even if we don't post we are here :)
If there is interest I will look into setting up an RSS feed for the forum. There is always a balance though in what features are added etc, as we don't have very much time to devote to the forum, and every hour I spend adding stuff to the forum or website is an hour of actual work I must pass on. That is why I don't implement every single thing that is requested, and with this RSS feed request I assume I felt there wasn't enough people requesting it back in the day (it looks like it took 3 years and 3 months before anyone replied also wanting the RSS feed for the forum, but I guess there could have been other RSS request thread I haven't seen).
Now, regarding dsdev.org, we didn't have any time to start a proper site. We attented the Nintendo press conference at the Hollywood & Highland complex prior to E3 back in 2004 when they announced the DS, and we got very excited about it. Unfortunately real life came in the way, as it often does, and we could not devote the time required to run another site.
With the DS development scene however, there were other sites that catered to the DS homebrew scene, so instead of continuing with a half-arsed attempt we chose to let other people take the load this time around. The site has stayed online just as a reference so people will still find their way to the forum and to not let the domain fall into the hands of spammers. So I wouldn't expect any additions to the site in the future either josath.
This forum has never required much work from the moderators though, and the unwanted crowd has stayed away. I must say that, thanks to all of you guys, this has been the forum with the least amount of drama and bickering that I have come across.
Simon

Here's another request for an RSS feed on the forum. :)
#170840 - gauauu - Thu Oct 22, 2009 3:06 am
Thanks, Simon. It's nice to know you guys are still around.
#171032 - hacker013 - Wed Oct 28, 2009 11:04 pm
it is great to see a post from you guys :) and I hope we will get a rss feed :) and maybe you can start here a topic for people with an idea how to update dsdev.org O_o and if the idea is right let them update it ?
