That's pretty stupid.. In this case, I hope the trademark owners file a suit against anyone using the name and not meaning the game. Don't get me wrong, I hate Pokemon.. but naming a gene the same name.. That's just rediculous. Correct me if Pokemon is a generic term.

There is a gene called sonic hedgehog which controls limb development. Sega hasn't sued.

tepples: I can't imagine why..

"Although the gene shares its name with the popular Japanese pocket monster cartoon character, Dr. Pandolfi said it is by pure coincidence. Pokemon is short for POK Erythroid Myeloid Ontogenic factor."

Riight... "POK Erythroid Myeloid Ontogenic Factor", that would be Pokemof.

lol, it must be a new form of advertising. Like they say "Gotta catch em all." In this case, I'm afraid, if not opposed, to catch any.

Coincidence my butt!

If we could turn Pokemon off, it may block the oncogenic circuitry and stall the malignant process.

Man that's funny :D.

Isn't that the catchphrase for Danny Phantom?

It's a small web after all. This morning, I read two pages full of silly molecules and stuff, including various hedgehogs.

that page wrote:
Fruitfly genetics has a rich history of 'creative' nomenclature, often based on the appearance of flies that have the gene in a mutated form. One of these mutated genes made fruitfly embryos look like hedgehogs, since their spines grew all over their body rather than just in specific places - so it was name the 'hedgehog' gene. The vertebrate analogue was called 'Sonic' Hedgehog in order to distinguish it from its insect-forming version, and was given the abbreviation Shh. Geneticists studying other organisms are happy to elaborate on this when they can get away with it, and there are other variety of hedgehog genes called Indian hedgehog (Ihh), Desert hedgehog (Dhh), and even 'Tiggy-Winkle hedgehog' (TWhh)! There are also genes called Sleeping Beauty, Tubby, and most recently the puberty gene, "Harry Potter".

Puts a new meaning to 'Gotta catch em all!'...

If anyone knows what it is, tell me.
