...so are they only possible on pc or can you get something to play on the gba?

is that flash card thingy work for playing the games off the site? or what? please help (n00b)!

Yes, the flash carts work for playing GBA games and demos downloaded from gbadev.org, pdroms.de, or any of the individual developers' sites.
