I'm curious how much spam people here get in their e-mail, if you use filters, and how successful they are...

I've had the same e-mail address for something like 6 years now... it was never diligently protected from bots and whatnot, although I don't personally believe that it's even possible to defend an e-mail address anymore... if you're in someone else's contact info then a worm is just as likely to harvest it from their computer as it is likely that it'll get scavenged from the net somewhere.

Anyway, things have never been too bad with it, but lately it's on the rise. I'll typically get about half a dozen spams overnight, and maybe a dozen more throughout the day. A lot of the time it's the same one over and over again... "Doctor" keeps sending me "The Ultimate Online Pharmeceutical", sometimes two or three times a day.

I use Mail on my Mac at home, and its junk filter is pitiful... it sometimes misses as much as 50% of the junk mail, and gets frequent false-positives as well. But when I'm at work I check mail through a web client, so there's no filtering happening there.

I'm starting to get annoyed with it, though. What solutions do people here favour?

Dan.

Google mail > Thunderbird client > Yahoo mail > Hotmail

GMail is one of the better email providers. Although my spam directory is overflowing with Viagra and Software mail, I don't get bothered by it. It never hapenned that I recieved even 1 in inbox.

Problem is that I'm not using a generic e-mail domain... my e-mail is being hosted under my own domain name.

If your domain has POP, etc. then you can use the thunderbird client

Cool, I'll give Thunderbird a looksee.

All e-mail to my domain is filtered by my host's spam filter, and that's all sent to my gmail account and filtered again. I wouldn't want to see what my e-mail looks like raw. O_o

When I check my granicus account I usually have 100 to 200 spam emails. I usually have 20 to 60 spam emails in my hotmail account. I check email 1 to 4 times a month. (Mostly to delete spam.)

Now that I think about it, I don't like email all that much. Can anyone suggest a linux spam solution?

No spam on my cell phone anymore. =)

I receive about 50-60 spam e-mails /24h. Opera filters most of them but you still go thru them as you dont want to risk missing an important e-mail.

I was going to laugh at you all for getting so much spam, but suddenly this week, I got a ton of them, when I normally get close to 0. Weird.

The only spam I get is for herbal viagra and to lengthen my p***s. So I guess if I wanted to, I could have a flag pole in my pants.

I get the strangest stuff. Spam for foot care products. Korean spam. Spam for cheap pirated movies. I don't open them anymore... I'm probably missing out on some really good stuff. *sarcastic* Let's see what's in my inbox right now. =)
Code:

1: Subject: Small Cap For You to Watch overdevotion pleasedness percentaged
2: (it's in iso-2022-jp and mutt doesn't like it; "venusnetwork"... these people are really annoying)
3: Subject: Fw: sgeos
4: (also iso-2022-jp, points to a "luckylady" site;  probably related to "venusnetwork" deal above)

#3 and #4 arrived as I typed this. =(
