OffTopic > hex editor problems

#77734 - howlingblue - Sun Apr 02, 2006 7:41 pm

Well, I was gonna play around with a hex editor and try to translate some GBA games, but I can't get them to work right.....

no hex editor I've found yet can seem to display the japanese characters correctly, or allow me to search for certain characters.

So, does anyone know one that does? or maybe what I'm doing wrong with the ones I've looked at?

Thanks, and sorry if this is a noobish question....

Not sure if this helps, XVI32 allows you to search unicode strings. SlickEdit shows some string when I switch to hex mode and change to appropriate font...

What font are you using in XVI32? I'm using MS Mincho, and even though the katakana is in that font, it's not showing up in there.....

Haven't tried SlickEdit yet, I guess I will tomorrow........

Try this hex viewer. I think I was using hex codes directly in XVI32.

Text in a GBA game may not be in Unicode or any other character encoding recognized by ISO. You may have to specify a custom character encoding. In addition, the text in a lot of games is heavily compressed.
