It's possible, but the only reason I'd think you'd do it is to match it to another DS. And I don't see the point in that.

It's easy to find out anyway.
They're hardly going to go "OMG I AM A LEET HAX0R, PHE4R M3!!!111!!11" because they can use a program to change their MAC address, because then they'd just be script kiddies....oh, wait...

Changing mac address should be easy. It's stored in firmware, at a documented location. I believe there is also documented code to write to the firmware....so put 2 and 2 together...

There's nothing wrong with MAC spoofing on a PC. Windows even includes an option to do it.

Well the BIG problem isn't too bad. Just don't mention that specific issue.
It is possible to change MACs, but the MAC is stored right at the beginning of the firmware, which is also where the fail-safe code from flashme is stored. This is a very risky thing to flash. It is much safer and easier to spoof the DS's MAC on a laptop than to change the DS's MAC to match the laptop's.

As I understand it, isn't the MAC used as part of the seed to create the WFC ID?
If you changed the MAC, I imagine it would be then possible to "clone" WFC accounts, or just cause general havoc.
But it seems the easiest way to get though captive portals would be to just use the DS Browser, whenever that gets out of Japan, anyway.
