DS Misc > Metroid Prime: Hunters Hacked.

Parasyte has now revealed that he has hacked Metroid Prime: Hunters.

No need to worry, Parasyte is a pretty upstanding guy--he never revelaed how to cheat in Mario Kart DS and he bashes online cheater-wannabes at GSCentral.org.

Pretty interesting news, nonetheless.

find someting better to do that to CHEAT in games.

the whole fun is the challenge of playinf the computer and other people. it ruins the fun for others when people cheat.

if you cant play the right way, dont botner playing the damn game

I find it funny that now everytime someone loses, or someone acts slightly odd on MPH, they go to the forum and go "OMG I FOUGHT A LEET HAX0R, THEY ARE RUINING IT FOR EVERYONE".

Also that they called Parasyte an "isolated hermit". I mean, seriously wtf?

Those guys over there are just weird.

Erm, I saw that post. And I believe they meant that only Para and a few 30-year-old losers livign in their parent's basement would also be able to do it. You know- the super geeks.

I'd be a lot more interested if he hacked it to load the beta testing levels and what not.

Could someone please explain the "leetness" of this hack? I mean.. What did he do (besides hex editing?) that anyone should be "proud" of?

It reminds me of back in the day, when I would play an RGP and use a table as a shield and a tree for a weapon.. ooh... look at me.. I'm a uber leet hacker that can use a hex editor.

Or, was there really some true hacking involved to do this? I mean.. does N even have anything in place to verify unedited roms in play?

He used a handcrafted debugger to change values in the memory while changing the game. Not exactly ROM hacking.

Sorry for reviving a dead thread. I just want to rant

Some idiot which I aint naming release some tool which I aint naming to hack MPH online.

Now not only can Parasyte do it (his intentions seemed clean), but any idiot with a flashcard (or something, I really dont want that tool or try it or anything, I dont know what it involves).

They just ruined the only game online that I used to play. Lets all flood Nintendo with this until they ban those worthless cheaters.

Chances are Nintendo will be a LOT more careful with flashcards and people running homebrew now, posibly even tighten the Wii to prevent this sort of stuff from happening.

THANKS A LOT ******S!

But what happens if they start disliking mroe homebrew because any idiot with a flashcart can hack if somebodyt releases the tools? What about the good hackers that hack Mario Kart? (Like me) This is a very sticky situation. You suck Legacy!!!!! (the release group)

Thats exactly the point

I wouldnt have minded if they somehow locked the tools so that they cant be used online, or if people actually GAINED something out of cheating on MPH, such as new levels or weapons (like you mentioned in Mario Kart, people actually get to play on the "locked" levels).

I just bought the game a few days ago, sad to see something like this happen.
However, there is something you can do: Disconnect.

It won't be hard to see who is cheating, just disconnect and find other people to play with. The cheater will join a few other games and if enough people just disconnect he'll get bored and do something else.

Since there is no method of in-game communication, I doubt many people will cheat just to piss everyone off like in other games.
Another solution is friendcodes, play only with people you know - sure this is bad, but it's not the end of the world.

And give the cheaters points?

Does score really matter that much?
Honestly, they can have all the points in the world for all I care.

Or if it matters that much only play with friends, people looking for an honest online game are not in short supply.

#90589 - Mr. Picklesworth - Sat Jul 01, 2006 3:01 am

You know what's really fun?
Overpowering the cheaters.

I did it a few times in CS:S.
Who cares that I only got 1 point when I really deserve 10? The game doesn't tell me what's awesome and what's not :P

Or better yet.. when you find someone cheating, set your DS down.. and go for a walk.

Then it's easy for them to get their 7 kills and end the game, or they can wait out the 7 minutes time limit and still come out ahead.

#90703 - Lynx - Sat Jul 01, 2006 9:41 pm

Yeah... and how much fun is that?

Edit: Just disconnecting is part of the "fun" for cheaters.. they get pleasure from thinking you are pissed off and quiting. by setting the DS down.. it's not as much fun..

Sorry to revive this, but I had a question about this. Does anyone know if this method might be used to alter the game controls to make them less convoluted? I could care less about cheating in the game, but I can't stand fighting with the awkward controls in what I feel would have been an excellent game if they had only added the ability to customize them. And I know I probably can't do it with my commercial game, so I'll probably have to hack a ROM of it. But do you guys suppose it's possible, or would it be easier if I just grew another hand?
