i hear there are download stations around where you can download demos and things.....are these powered by routers? if so, is ther downloadable software i could use?

its a ds with a special ds game,
it boardcasts to other ds's a download menu
then you select a demo and download...

its not software for the pc...
but if you have WMB you can pick up a copy of decrypted demos from it

(or you could just use a ds that can run homebrew)

WMB != WifiMe.

WifiMe is a wireless PassMe that boots apps from Slot-2, WMB is a computer program that sends applications to the DS.

but it only works on older DS'es

Yes WifiMe only owrks on DS's up to official firmware version 3.

Protocol changes with the DS Lite break WMB of official demos on unflashed Lite units.

Some LinkSys routers are based on Linux ... if you can port libnifi to work on them, you may even suceed :D
However, I think you would have to disable WiFi in order to achieve that, so it's not really convenient.

WMB stands for Wireless Multi Boot. It is the homebrew term for DS Download Play. This is similar to Multi Boot and Single-Pak Multiplayer on the GBA.
