I was searching google for DS Mods (i was bored)
And look what I came across
http://mash-mods.com/products/Nintendo%20DS/dschipadvanced
Has anyone heard of this before? Its kind of interesting.

Cool, but what I'd really like to see is a chip you wire into the A/B/X/Y buttons, that when activated, virtually rotates them 90 degrees (Y=B, B=A etc). That'd solve one of the major problems with GBA games.

Yeah, I think a lot of people would want this. The problem is, in order to remap B to A, you have to cut traces on the DS's main board. The other functions simply require a wire to join to where the button's output goes.

Might this not be possiable to do via the DS's firmware???
Just wondering how is button mapping done? is it via firmware?

When you boot up a GBA game it doenst have access to the DS hardware, as the X and Y buttons are mapped to the DS section or something gba games dont know that there is a x and y button there. The only way to get X and Y to work as L and R is using a hardware based mod like the one listed above

So could you set up a sort of bridged loader/emulator that would load GBA titles under DS mode?
Be interesting to learn where the brightness settings are stored in the DS lite unless it sets at boot and then turns over to the GBA 'side of things'

I dont believe so, im pretty sure the gba hardware doesnt have any physical or logical access to the ds hardware, pretty much the gba part is standalone. I suppose a custom firmware or something might work but you'd really need to know what your doing to make something like this

The only modchip I'd be interested in would be one that'd add multiplayer capabilites to the GBA mode ... One can dream ... :)

Buttons are hardwired to specific bits in specific registers. There is no button mapping done by the DS BIOS or Firmware, or by the GBA BIOS.
