Browsing around I found this BETA Review of the Opera Browser, all I can say is I wish I got MY hands on it lol.
It shows some stuff already known but a nice find.

You could use the RAM with a NoPass, I'd assume, as it would most probably be mapped into a GBA Address Space.

Counting your chickens eh?
What if they add some hardware encription to the GBA memory card - specially pared to the DS card even lol
From what I've read these will ONLY be sold online through Nintendo's store.... something funny there... time will tell.
#89409 - Kayouu - Sat Jun 24, 2006 7:16 pm
Hopefully there only going to sell it from there store at first to keep a very tight watch on the sales, so then they can be like wow this is selling incredibly well we should relsease it in the states and Europe and Aussi and such. That would be very very nice! Cause why not make tons of money cause who wouldnt want to get one that has a DS or DSL?

How do you click on links? If they're on the top screen.
#89496 - Kayouu - Sun Jun 25, 2006 4:16 am
Check out this page it is an old news thing but a few pictures of it that I don't think I've seen this looks like an only English version.

O_o but where to save it? :D
#89713 - Dark Knight ez - Mon Jun 26, 2006 1:24 pm
Probably as a savefile on either the GBA card or the NDS card.
It could later on be sent via Wifi to your PC.
edit: Note that this is all speculation. I don't know this for sure, but it would seem logical to me.
#89744 - HtheB - Mon Jun 26, 2006 3:23 pm
well...
I saw this page http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/browser/spec/index.html
and it says something about PDF and Flash...
does anyone knows japanese? xD
#89789 - mntorankusu - Mon Jun 26, 2006 6:36 pm
My extremely limited knowledge of Japanese tells me the middle one says "Nintendo DS Browser [does have, or supports, something]" and the bottom one says "Nintendo DS Browser [doesn't have, or doesn't support, something]"
I think.
#89833 - HyperHacker - Mon Jun 26, 2006 9:19 pm
I, too, have limited knowledge of Japanese. Here's what I can make out:
Quote: |
Nintendo DS Browser's [???]
Browser Engine
Opera 8.5
Nintendo DS Browser [???]
HTML, XHTML... [this is all in English anyway :-p]
Nintendo DS Browser [???]
Flash
[something-brushstroke] File
Sound file [actually "sound voice file"]
PDF File
That [???] plugin [wo ??? tosurumono] |

HAHA! The Nds opera browser had no filtering for explicit content....and had to hire some company to provide an optional content filtering system.
"This appears to confirm that the browser itself will have no built-in functionality to prevent access to specific websites or content, a feature that would previously have seemed unthinkable for the normally family-friendly Nintendo."

I think they are preventing this to happen.

Nintendo DS Browser Does not support:
Flash
Animated Picture File (MAY be Movie Files)
Audio Files
PDF File
In addition to anything else that needs plugins (aka Shockwave, Java, etc.)
Edit: Also, the RAM expansion is necessary they say. Whether it won't start without it or webpages just load very very bad to the point of being unreadable they didn't say.
Also, the Parent Protection is just a proxy you set up in the DS Browser Options (yes it supports proxies), you can also password protect the browser so the child can't just turn it on and go, they have to ask the parent to input the password. I don't know how the proxy settings are protected, I'd just turn the proxy off to bypass the restrictions.

It's a bit of a shame about Flash, but I suppose it's all pretty predictable.
As for the 'Animated Picture File' thing, what else could it mean but Animated GIFs? I'm sure regular GIFs will be fine.
Are there any ideas about prices yet? Whether or not the LITE version with it's smaller GBA cart will be more expensive?
#90006 - AnalogMan - Tue Jun 27, 2006 9:19 pm
You can preorder it here. Both versions cost the same it would seem.
#90007 - Darkflame - Tue Jun 27, 2006 9:20 pm
Not supporting animated Gifs is just lazy, imo

Yes, I believe as the two Beta testers reports say they checked online mail sites like GMail, hotmail, etc, and those rely heavily on javascript.
#90054 - thundrestrike - Wed Jun 28, 2006 2:52 am
yes i have read an article that says it supports javascript

Oh! Upon further inspection, 'Animated Pictures' may refer to Movie files. Makes more sense that Movie and sound are not supported rather than animated GIFS.
#90083 - xtoc - Wed Jun 28, 2006 7:52 am
Can it run java games?
java script is one thing, but java games itself?

Too bad it doesn't support sound, as you'd be surprised at the kind of animated storyboard that can be made with just an ADPCM .wav file and an animated GIF. Look at Super Pizza Kart. Are you the man now dog?
But if it supports JavaScript at anywhere near the level that Opera does, watch people port their sprite based GBA games to JavaScript and reignite the homebrew scene.

Maybe there is a way to make it to download and run .NDS files by wasting all of the memory, as in making the script to continuously double the length of a string.... O, maybe not.

A buffer overflow? Could happen, but don't count on it.
