#92434 - thundrestrike - Thu Jul 13, 2006 3:45 pm

Are you guys going all the way with this homebrew?
What exactly will this have in the future?

P.S. - I also can't wait to test :)

(Dream Mode On) ...I think we can only wish the Sky... (Dream Mode Off)

Seriously, i think we can do something here, we only need help, Nds Scene always wanted a SSB DS homebrew... so where are they now ?

If we can get more coders, testers and that stuff, we can do what we want, but the main thing is that we want to test where we can get with the first demo...

#92437 - gm112 - Thu Jul 13, 2006 3:52 pm

I'll test!

edit: I'm currently learning how to program so possibly when I'm ready your still in development in this game.

Hell.. A SSB game on the DS. A dream come true :D The community will start to pick up on it...

As for the coding part, I'd love to help with that too, but imho I still don't know enough C/C++ and I lack experience.

#92439 - dualscreenman - Thu Jul 13, 2006 3:58 pm

If you need somebody to test, I'm available. I have a standard flashcard with a flashed DS.

I also know HTML and CSS.

3 More people to test the game at first...be fast eheheh

#92445 - clone dad - Thu Jul 13, 2006 4:13 pm

If somebody is good @ making designs (I'm good at HTML & CMS, but not @ designing) I could set you up a homepage based on my own CMS. You could then administrate the homepage by yourself, since all the content will lie in .txt files (screenshot galleries are also very easy to do). PM me if you're interested ;) (I would also host it for you)

Clone Dad, maybe you could work with DualScreenMan ? You two seem to know, some things about CSS,Php and Htlm...

#92448 - Goldeneye - Thu Jul 13, 2006 4:15 pm

If that one last spot is still there, i'll gladly try it on the G6 :)

#92449 - Vasco - Thu Jul 13, 2006 4:18 pm

yes...

And could someone make a Image for the Menu ? and a small video (amv) for the intro ? based on SSBM obviously..

#92450 - clone dad - Thu Jul 13, 2006 4:19 pm

I could also put my php shoutbox for the site. heres a sample of what i made: http://members.lycos.co.uk/thebestkeptone/main-say.html

it also logs the posters ip address on a different page.

*edit*

vasco, i might be able to do the intro video in flash.

testing is cool! may i become a tester?
i have a gbamp cf and a m3 cf. maybe later a m3 sd, but i cant tell you when...

#92476 - Vasco - Thu Jul 13, 2006 5:25 pm

The DevKits are only the Sprites, Maps, Sounds, Menus, Objects, we could gather untill now, the download of the pack is for people that want to sneak a view to see what characters and that stuff will be in, and for adding some things to the Pack...

If someone Adds something to the DevKit, PM me with the Updates on a different .Rar or .Zip.

is this a PA_lib project, or is it LibNDS? .. the last Super Smasbrothers project was a PA_lib project, meaning it was quite limited.

#92480 - Vasco - Thu Jul 13, 2006 5:28 pm

I dont know, only DsHacker knows... But PLEASE dont PM him, he already has too much work on it...

But leave the suggestion on the topic, so he can see it...

#92483 - outphase - Thu Jul 13, 2006 5:32 pm

I have a G6 lite if you need a tester that doesn't use external memory

#92485 - Vasco - Thu Jul 13, 2006 5:37 pm

We were thinking and there will not be testers....WE DONT LIKE YOU ! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAAH

Kidding, it will be PUBLIC But first im testing it with Shaz ; )

DsHacker Orders...but i think this is better !

#92488 - dshacker - Thu Jul 13, 2006 5:40 pm

Some of the guys are posting off-topic stuff in here. Like I have a G6flash or w/e. Please just stay on-topic. And as for me I'm still working. I need to add the sprites individully. Then be able to make em jump. I still have some coding to do. But can everyone wait for untill I'm done.

#92491 - dualscreenman - Thu Jul 13, 2006 5:44 pm

One thing new projects need to learn is... everybody wants to test, nobody wants to code. ;-)

Lol....Sad but True...but its not a problem for now...

#92498 - dshacker - Thu Jul 13, 2006 5:58 pm

Yes I know how to program now. So I dont need another coder. I'm fine. Anyways, I'm almost done the demo. There's only going to be 2 sprites in the game. Link and Mario for now. Untill I add more people.

#92500 - Vasco - Thu Jul 13, 2006 6:02 pm

DsHacker what Mario are you using ? the one that has luigi on the same image or the other ? use the other... pleaseee the one that has the two characters on one sprite is sooo bad...

#92502 - thundrestrike - Thu Jul 13, 2006 6:04 pm

can't wait until this is released,

DsHacker, what will be added in the future of this project?
for example-
how many characters?
multiplayer (wifi)? (DS--> access point <-- DS [ i know that local multiplayer doesnt work yet])

just curious, because this project sounds promising

#92505 - dshacker - Thu Jul 13, 2006 6:13 pm

Well w/e I find the best in the sprites. and now I'm changing the character to Kirby vs. mario or kirby vs. dark kirby. I have to see. As for the wifi protocool, that will be added if I can find the source or something to the protocool. Eventully this will be a LAN game also. As for the ds download play will probally not be supported for the game. And yes find wifi AP, has to be a compatible wifi access point for Nintendo since I'm not going to go further into wifi access points. Sorry, but thats how it is. Anyways, the thing is, I'll probally realese the wifi componet with the game if there's no bugs in the demo when it's realeased.

#92506 - thundrestrike - Thu Jul 13, 2006 6:22 pm

#92517 - Alucard258 - Thu Jul 13, 2006 7:08 pm

I might be able to help with getting a site and hosting. Might.

I can however, definitley make a menu if you still need it. Just tell me what you want on it.

#92518 - dshacker - Thu Jul 13, 2006 7:09 pm

I'm only going to use one map for the demo, and some of the maps I cant edit for resizing. because they're not PNG files. SO if I could get some later from you, that would be great.

#92519 - mrsaturn - Thu Jul 13, 2006 7:15 pm

I can provide hosting and help you set up a site. Check out

What menus options should there be? Single player, multiplayer, and that stuff.

#92523 - Vasco - Thu Jul 13, 2006 7:24 pm

I dont know that stuff.. hmm make them with no text inside, so DsHacker can add later when he knows what to include...

Well I'm still working, and I'm almost done it. I need to make a make.bat file, and include it, kirby and dark kirby moves I need to make. The background has been included also, I need to make a smashds.bin file or if I just use the .nds file that I made. I need to make the some other stuff to, then I'll be done the demo.

#92532 - dshacker - Thu Jul 13, 2006 8:16 pm

I'm almost done guys, just need to add some sprites to the maps, and there movements, then add a menu.h file for access one-player mode for now. And be able to chose from being ethir dark or reg. kirby. Then compile it alltogether and bam the demos ready

#92533 - Kturbo - Thu Jul 13, 2006 8:34 pm

someone can load ssbm in the gcn and record from the soundtest for the sounds...

Or...
(tepples, don't replace what im about to say with "yarr" because
this is only for homebrew purposes)

or you could load SSB in a n64 emulator (only do it if you have the game) and unlock the music test (which includes sounds) and use a computer sound recorder to take sounds from that. This would be the clearest way to get sounds.

Please READ THIS:.

Im going on a mini mini vacations this weekend, so im only coming here on sunday...

The thing is that, most probably this will turn out a little desorganized with out me xD

Please i ask from my heart... let the Topic stay organized, any questions about the game, talk to DsHacker on this Topic, and only if its very important talk to him on PM...

I could make a version of http://ls5.cydonianknight.com for you. Lemme know.

#92635 - dshacker - Fri Jul 14, 2006 8:12 am

its alot better then what you did have. but here's a suggestion make the Super Smash Bros. DS screen stay up longer and have the master hand and mario attack each other at the bottom of the screen or at the top. And they both charge at each other. and it makes a boom sound along when the words break up.

Like this

Mario -

() <-- Head
/---L <-- Hands
ll <-- Body
---
l l <-- Feat

#92637 - germel - Fri Jul 14, 2006 8:19 am

well i could try it but i need sprites or some animations of the 2 and the problem is it must connect i mean acting together becouse their attacking each other... if someone has a video of this and its pretty clean well send it to me so i can make it a flash video and add it.

i will look if i can make it by myself but than i need some time becouse making this isnt done in one sec..

i?ll do my very fast best. :-D if this works.. WOW

ok i found sprites..

both come in screen both frem left and right. master hand starting to shoot fire and mario jumps and miss them and in that jump he goes direct the master hand at the point mario crashes into the master hand they both disapear and the words explode.. ok??

its a matter of a few seconds but i looks already cool and much work whehe

thats only if I can. You should be able to be able to boot it up in sram w/e any trouble when you load in the gamecart. Also I'm going back to bed. I was working all night on this. Almost done. I just need to finish the functions of kirby and dark-kirby. It's allready 7:22 AM so yea, I'm really tired. PLus I'm almost finished with kirbys functions, as for the dark kirby (mr. game and watch kirby) I'm just going to leave him as a decoy. Once the demos tested and all of that, I'll compile more maps into the game and more selectable characters. I also forgot that I need to add in the menu. DOn't worry, the demos allmost done, and once it's done, I can easyly add more stuff to the game. Like wifi, more characters and maps. Trophies in the settings section. Wifi pictochat protocool for talking to people online in the game. Microphone support when in the map level to tlak instead of typing.

#92677 - jester - Fri Jul 14, 2006 12:46 pm

well that is all good news ive just got some new sounds and all

wow, do not put a video intro in an homebrew, people don't want to download
a few MB just for an intro (especially gbamp and wmb users limited to 4MB !)
or put it 100% vectorial (moving sprites, using coded special effects, put pixels on the screen etc. but no plain video! )

#92729 - thundrestrike - Fri Jul 14, 2006 6:19 pm

DsHacker can make two versions, a video one and a non-video one

but thats only if he wants to.

I can't wait to play the demo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree.

But I still have this idea of a intro, i'll make it and see if u guys like it.
The video should be around 7 seconds long so that should be ok.

I'm thinking about offering my services, but I'm already doing music for one DS game. Two might be overkill for me.

No offence, but I seriously do not like the intro.
It is very simple.
I will try to make one anyway, I just need to know which characters should I put in.

(my) best idea is to keep it to homebrew communities, not news sites

examples like

gbadev.org (duh)
boards.pocketheaven.com
scdev.org

and others if you have any

(dont take my word for it, see what dshacker has to say)

good, but put a title screen. Also when selecting menus etc, I think you should use fade effects.

For example:

When selecting one player and then it will take you to the character selection screen, instead of just taking you there, there should be a face effect transition. Or when on the title screen, when you press start, it will fade to the main menu instead of just blinking you there.

Ya get ma flow?

It will make it look more professional.

Also, about where the ssb ds should be, it should ALWAYS be on the main website. But you should notify the webmasters of ONLY homebrew sites.
This will gain more traffic to the official ssb ds website.

You said you needed a title screen, Dshacker?
I spent about 45 minutes on it (while waiting for demo ;])

And I'm quite proud on how it turned out.

Here is the overall preview of it-
[Images not permitted - Click here to view it]
(letters look a bit choppy unless you click to zoom-in to actual size)

Here is the top screen only-
[Images not permitted - Click here to view it]
EDIT: DONT USE THIS, I MADE A BETTER ONE THAT IS LESS CHOPPY IN THE LETTERS
>>[Images not permitted - Click here to view it]<<
use that one with the arrows pointing to it ;)

Here is the bottom screen only-
[Images not permitted - Click here to view it]

And to those concerned about copyright laws-
[Images not permitted - Click here to view it]

Please let me know if you like it, dshacker!
you can touch it up a bit if you plan on using it.
Also, if you have a better idea for the bottom screen, then let me know :)

Possibly the best CONCEPT for the game, but as for the actual gameplay, we dont know right now. Seeing as its just a demo right now, I wouldnt expect much, and everyone is going to have complaints about it and more suggestions.

#92852 - thundrestrike - Sat Jul 15, 2006 2:08 am

how do you make a regularly .nds file work with the supercard? (i know for homebrew you rename the .ds.gba file to .nds, but theres no .ds.gba)

erm... any plans on .ds.gba?!

#92853 - dshacker - Sat Jul 15, 2006 2:09 am

make the file extension sc.nds for supercard. To do this, open up notepad, and open up the .nds game, make sure to when opening up the files, cahnge it to open all files, then open the game, then svae the game as supersmashbrosds.sc.nds and make sure when you save it it's an all file part. So it saves as a Nintendo DS game card image.

that file will NOT work.
Its only 10 KBs. That is not enough for a homebrew game such as this. Something mustve gone wrong during the compiling. -_-

And yeah, its an .nds file, it wont work anyways.

Then redraw all the sprites. Established kung-fu character stereotypes are public domain (Capcom v. Data East), and so are established fairy tale characters (bye-bye Peach, hello Rapunzel).

Piracy is piracy. If a homebrew game uses copyrighted sprites without permission, it's just as much an infringement as if I were to dump my Mario Kart Super Circuit Game Pak, upload it to pineight.com, and link it in my sig. What would SimonB do?

Redrawing a copyrighted work is still copyright infringement. And what about the music?

Ugh, are you serious?! People on the team of a game with potential completely disregarding copyright laws? What is so hard about changing a few srites to non-copyrighted characters? Think about it, it'll be basicly the same game, but you could have characters like "Ninja", or hell, throw in a "Pirate", then we'd finally be able to settle the dispute of which is better :P.

You could take the approach used by Mugen and StepMania: Make a generic comic-fighting engine and stuff it with freely usable sprites. Then have the romhacking community distribute the Smash Bros. mod for it.

Tepples, please give it a rest. No offense but making the same argument 100x isn't going to make your point more valid. They want to make a SSB game and since Nintendo doesn't want to they WILL. Nintendo has had over 4 years to do it and it?s never going to happen. I mean think how sweet a SSB game would be with The New Super Mario Bros 2d engine and 3d characters! The 2d/3d environments, great gameplay combined with everything Nintendo! They already have the engine premade so what are they waiting for? Knowing Nintendo, they could put together a SSB game from the NSMB engine within 6-8 months with no problems. I mean, if I can have this homebrew version I'll take that over nothing! I give props to the makers as you are really dedicated. I hope it?s the best homebrew game out! I hope Nintendo comes after you for it! I then hope you keep on making it and show them it?s time to make a game of their own!

what can nintendo do about it? seriosly, and i agree with fifthe1ement, everytime someone wants to make a fan-game, (no offense) you go full-fledged on copyright laws..

its a FAN-GAME!!! as in, "nintendo! we love your game! im going to make a remake as a good fan! thank you!"

As much as I hate to say it, I kinda have to agree with Tepples.. it is against the copyright law, to use copyright-protected sprites in a fangame.

I like his idea about the genetic fighting-engine, with freeware sprites, then releasing another version at pocketheaven or something, with the Nintendo Sprites as piracy =)

Well im going only today... so only 1 hour and im going... any updates ?

PS:. Are you kidding me ? making another Forum will not help now, we are going apart, the project is already in many topics, this will make the project desorganized.... Lets make first the game, and then a WebSite and a forum... not now...

#92922 - jester - Sat Jul 15, 2006 5:19 pm

If they're not willing to make a distribution with freely available characters (for which a redrawn Mario does not count), this is a piracy topic and will be closed.

cause hitheb ("touch music" coming heh? :p ) said there was another ssb ds project a few time ago cancelled by nintendo (but it could have been a fake)

Tepples-

Lock this Topic. Remove it if need be. This FAKE is distracting major homebrew developers, and others participating in homebrew!
LOOK!

Tepples, take action now. Our homebrew scene is doomed if all attention is focused on this fake.
I have noticed many topics recieving less views/posts.
This one has 4000+ views and 18 pages in 2 days
I have also noticed not many updates in other homebrew or new ones.
Take action.

#92955 - dshacker - Sat Jul 15, 2006 11:07 pm

the projects real. I had a made of it, but it didn't work, and I'm still working on the project.

#92956 - tepples - Sat Jul 15, 2006 11:08 pm

Please continue discussion here. I'll just let this one sit locked; after a couple days it should fall off the front page of DS Misc.
