So do you want to keep the health and safety screen, and add your own sound? Why not use Flashme, then boot to Moonshell with a custom startup sound?

I think he wants the DS to boot up with a custom sound even when he's not doing homebrew...

yes thats exactly

if we can't get the source, is there a work around to getting a custom sound on the DS health warning screen?

i dont want FWNITRO

i just want the flashme_stealth with a different jingle

is there a way i can install flashme_stealth, then dump my firmware, and then change the jingle, then compile it back, and the install the modified flashme_stealth? if thats possible, how would I go about doing it?

I don't think there is 'source' for the firmware...its more like assembly level patches methinks.

dump your own firmware, locate the offset for the sound, and then try to get more help.

I remember seeing Loopy being able to change the text in the Health screen.. something like "hacked by firefly" or something like that.. is that hard to pull out? .. guess its just finding the offset, but does anyone know it at present?

Um, Firefly did that, not Loopy. Perhaps that is why it said "hacked by firefly", maybe, possibly.

So, is there a tutorial on how to edit the text to customize DS Firmware? I'd settle with changing the Health and Safety text, possibly even the NDSCart, Pictochat, Download Play GBA Cart text too.

And if changing the jingle/alarm noise was possible too, that'd be like simply awesome.

1. Install FlashME on your DS
2. Now dump it using either DSLinux or fwdumper
3. Now it's up to you: try some hex-editing to change the binary
4. Compile with FWNitro's installer
5. Install your custom FlashME on your DS

...

It'd be really nice to have a PC application with the following options:
Quote:
Health-warning screen: ON | OFF | CUSTOM
RSA check: ON | OFF
MK support: ON | OFF ...

and so on and on ... :P

The firmware is encrypted or compressed (can't remember), you'll have to decompress or decrypt the firmware.

FireFly managed to decompress a part of the firmware only allowing him to edit text in the menus and the health screen.

In fact, such a firmware editor might be more clearly legit than the current versions of FlashMe and NoFlashMe. The "easy parts" (i.e. all but the custom health warning screen) could even be made to run directly on the DS, right?

Hmm, I already have a copy of my firmware.bin, trying unhexing with a demo of Hex Workshop.

Is the .bin compressed or encrypted? If its compressed, how can I go around decompressing. All I want is to edit some text and possibly change the jingle.

I had to reinstall flashme_stealth to rehear the jingle.
