I'm new to these forums but I have read them for a few months and I came across the LED mod for gba carts. So one day i decide to do that to my GBAMP and now my DS won't turn on. The only sign of life I get from it is if I plug in the charger and then the charge light only stays on for about 2 seconds. If I turn on the DS while the light turns on all I hear is the LCD's fire up or it crackles and then immediately it turns off help needed!!!!!! also this is a firmware v2 phat DS. Also PM me if you need any sprites done :)(I do sprites :D. Please anyone !!! I need help I'm chewing on my tongue right now I need a fix or I can't do anything in the HB scene anymore I'm broke :(.

Possibly a blown fuse? search this forum, there's other posts about it I believe.
#99523 - dshacker - Tue Aug 22, 2006 5:23 am
done the same thing with my old ds. I used a passme, and it slid out of the ds cart slot and the ds turned off. After that, the ds wouldn't turn on and when I did the same thing with trying to use the charger and turning it on, you get a weird sound. The only suggestion is to get a new ds. THe old one will never work again.

Yup, blown fuse.
Possible short circuit in the GBAMP?

Dang it allwell thanks for the help guys I think I'm gonna gets me a ds lite :D
lol but, I have to wait a while because I have to save up unless a DS Lite isn't worth the cost. plus I have tobuy an mml to play demos which makes me angry.(I don't want to flash it it'd be to risky IMO)

Flashing is not risky at all. So easy. I've done it twice without breaking a sweat.

So did you even check the broken fuse? It's not that hard to fix. It's just one little tiny piece of wire that is blown, and everything else should be working fine still. Seems kind of dumb to replace the whole DS if it's just the fuse.
That's like when you blow the breaker at your house, buying a new house instead of flipping the breakers in your basement.

Except the DS uses surface-mounted fuses instead of pluggable breakers.

A simple short circuit should suffice
#99636 - InF3Rnus - Tue Aug 22, 2006 9:17 pm
If it's surface mounted then wouldn't I be able to just solder a new fuse in that spot above the old one? And any suggestions on how to make a homemade tri-driver? I was thinking about using clay lol. Thanks for the help so far.

Short F2, next to the charge port should be the problem.

Shorting the fuse is one layer less protection of shorting the li-ion battery. You are lucky that there is a protection ciruit in the battery itself, but if it malfunctions... there is a video how li-poly (a kind of li-ion) batteries explode over here:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151687
SMT fuses are available at Digi-Key. DarkFader tested the fuse to be 1.5A (ifI remember correctly). But we don't know if it's fast-acting or slow-acting. |
If you are any good at solding SMT parts, replacing the fuse would be best.
Or maybe you could mod a small circuit breaker into your NDS unit (An idea which I like).

Well thanks for all the help but this still doesn't fix my problem of making a mkeshift tridriver. :( anyone know how to do it? I don't feel like waiting by ordering something off the net. And no I'm not moding my DS although the 1.7x's faster mod makes me want to lol.

Get a one dollar set of precision screwdrivers and find the standard (minus shaped head) one that fits best.

Can anyone give me a link directly to the site that says that the fuse is 1.5A
because I bridged the fuse and it's working, but I still need a line of defence so my DS doesn't go x.X . So if anyone on here can link me and tell me what exactly the part is that'd be great.

Not really, as long as you don't short circuit anything, the chances of the fuse ever burning out under normal use is almost zero.
#100119 - JaJa - Sat Aug 26, 2006 10:15 am
Just use some thin wire.
Or try and read the values on the fuse?
I know they're small but they still have a value painted on (normally anyway).
