DS Misc > DSOrganize - How many characters fit the width

#100923 - RabbitGTI - Thu Aug 31, 2006 9:08 pm

Hello all. Here I am stuck at work without my DS to test this. just curious as to how many characters fit across the DS screen when viewing a text file with DSOrganize without having to scroll horizontally.

FYI, I am writing up recipes that I would like to have on the go and would like to not have to scroll sideways to read them. If anyone knows how many fit or would like to test and find out I would appreicate it greatly.

cheers

As far as I know, DSOrganize's text viewer performs automatic word wrap.

As far as I know, DSOrganize supports variable-width fonts. That means that each character has a different width. There is no point of asking 'how many characters', it's more like 'how many pixels'. That is probably around 24?, with the scrollbar-width subtracted.

touche. I am pretty sure you are right about the variable width font too. ok then, trial and error it is once I get a chance to test this out.

Is there a reason that you need to know this?

Long lines + Auto word wrap = No scrolling sideways.

Given this, is there a reason that the number of characters per line is important?

Its important if you want something to look a specific way. Wrapping the text manually yields much nicer results.

True in some cases, but irrelevant / not applicable for variable-width fonts (at least without other format settings such as indentation, rulers, etc.)

DSOrganize also features a file editor, so you may edit it on the go as well :)

heh. thanks for all the responses and in my haste last night I didn't even get a chance to check it out. (went sailing instead)

I do want it to look a certain way cause these are recipies so for quick readability I want it to look clean and not wrapped if I can.

but yes I will play with the text editor this weekend as I am bringing it on my friend's boat for cooking and gaming purposes ;)

I write documentation that has a lot of ASCII art/separators, which I did with the assumption of 80 characters per line. It is all but unreadable on the DSOrganize's text viewer.
