Would it work, streaming Tv for the DS, by Online Streaming, i know lots and lots of websites that have streaming for excelent channels, like American CartoonNetwork (OnePiece,Naruto,BoboBobobo), Espn, TvTokyo, etc...
Maybe its workable... maybe someone could work around with it, because i dont think its that difficult, if the ds can get to irc, msn, get streming from online radios, play online, etc...

Could you PM me these websites? I'm sure it could work but even streaming radio seems to be tough if you look at Dissonance, it's hard to get it syncing properly, or at least it is for me.

If you use DsOrganize, it works flawless...
Some good sites for seeing some channels..

What's the minimum CPU requirement of the channels you list?

Its is probably possible to stream vdeo to the ds, but remember it is not a fast system, you may not get watchable results.

If you use a custom codec tailored to the limitations of the hardware, such as .gbm/.gbs of the GBA Movie Player stock firmware or .dpg of MoonShell, it should be feasible to get 12fps at a decent quality. But the streams provided by MPAA members are not so tailored.

I dont know the minimum of Cpu, but when i watch them, i usually need only 20 KB per second... so i dont think it should be that difficult..
You guys should try... test www.Viido.com and try some channels like USA Network (Wwe Raw) and Cartoon Network (Anime) ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, or download TVUplayer...
Lets try it guys, maybe it will work... maybe just test it or something...

thats awesome!!! wish we had that on are ds!
#101218 - arlow - Sun Sep 03, 2006 10:25 pm
biggest problem is not the download but the CPU and perhaps the memory
id say that it is not possible!

Well, if you let a computer capture or download the stream at whatever frames/resolution is broadcast, and then encode it to specs the DS can handle, I'm sure you could do it. I mean.. worst case, you hack the hell out of the video and make it choppy, etc. But, if you can watch video on a GBA using the GBA MP, why not that same (or simular) video no the DS over WiFi?

But which MPAA member would process its works in such a way for you?

I think he is infering, you effectively screen capture it regularly, convert, and send to the Ds on the fly?
Seems doable...the framerate of the "sending to the DS" bit is likely to be much worse then the "print screen" frame-rate of the pc :p
(obviously print screen has to be done without hardware acceleration, but thats not a problem)
But still, I dont see much point given the low quality.
Id rather have higher/more flexible/easier normal streaming.
Supporting OGG streams, or higher bitrates ect.

A program for streaming videos from the PC to the DS would act as a normal conversion program, except it sends the data over wifi instead of saving it to disk. With the current wifi library, the DS seems to be able to sustain download rates of ~30 kbps over TCP. That leads to possible streaming speeds of at least ~224 kbps (including audio). I belive UDP is faster, however, so bitrates of 384+ aren't necessarily out of the question.
Conversion speed shouldn't be a problem for the most part, because at 12fps, both dpgenc and BatchDPG generally convert faster than realtime.
I'm not sure how much of the DS's RAM would be free for video/audio buffer, though.

I don't think my DS has ever beaten 3-4kb/sec when using homebrew (DSOrganize particularly).
#101321 - Lick - Mon Sep 04, 2006 12:15 pm
Sgstair said that DS->WWW is slow, while DS->LAN is faster (but that's logical).
So for downloading, I'd still recommend running a proxy downloading server on the PC.

That's exacly what I was refering to.. Like a MythTV plugin for watching live TV and recorded shows on your DS.

this is the part where tepples would say
"well, if you are close enough to a computer to run a program, then why watch the shows on your ds instead of on the computer?"
then i would say
"i could run the program in the background of the pc while a family member is on the computer, and watch them on my DS. OR, after my bedtime I could run the program on my computer and watch television on my DS under the covers (don't make fun of me, im a kid :O)"
that saves a few posts okay~
I like where this is going

That's totally what I do with my DS, watch stuff and play games in my bed. :P

Id just like to point out, you dont need to be a kid to do that ;)

I've managed 10kb/s with DSOrganize, BTW.

They done it today with the PSP....
Just use the TvuPlayer (the Program to see on the PC) and then use another program to stream it to the PSP, so i think we can do it with a DS...

EASH! Yeah.. you can do that.. as well as watch ANYTHING you want with mplayer on a linux machine.. but have you actually seen the ascii video? Not watchable.. really..
Ya'know what else would be handy (not for me, but probably others) an podcast viewer. That should be easy enough, no? or is all that stuff so closed source you can't create a viewer?

First of all, yes I joined this forum simply for this thread. I've gotten TVUPlayer to run effeciently and any computer on my network can tap into whats streaming through the program. All thats left is for a program on the DS to interpret the stream. The bandwidth is theoretically fine. I've been monitoring the bandwidth that TVUPlayer uses and its a little less than 256kbit and the speed of the DS' wifi connection is 2mbit.
I hope that a capable programmer would be willing to take up the challenge.

what format is the stream in?
good work btw!
#104033 - Firon - Tue Sep 26, 2006 2:40 am
Probably MPEG-4, considering the PSP can easily decode that.
