you're out of luck as far as mame goes, but a quick rundown:

NES: pocketnes is native to GBA and borderline perfect with more features than nesDS, but nesDS uses the full screen resolution, the Y button, and, if you can track down emu_kidid's modified version, FAT support.

SNES: snesDS or snezziDS. both very flawed in some regards but between the two probably about half of the SNES library is totally playable.

GB/C: goomba or goomba color. both gba native.

DOS: gbaGI for sierra games, scummVM for lucasarts games.

Genesis: PicoDrive - not fullspeed yet, and no sound, but works leagues better than anything else and is very much playable for some games (rocket knight adventures!)

Also:

Commadore64 ~ FrodoDS, works pretty well but very slow loading. Nicer GUI needed too.

Not to mention NesDS has the nifty "Rewind" feature ;)

All emulators are documented on ds-scene.net aswell. You need to be registered to enter the downloads section:

On that page are warez versions of doom & doom 2 data files.

If you want to be nice you can buy them here instead:
http://www.idsoftware.com/store/index.php?view=doom
Ultimate doom + doom II + final doom = $25.

There are abandonware Doom I & II files yes which were picked up from other abandonware sites around the internet. Not strictly warez else they would not be there.

If you download any game from the internet and you like it you should support the software by paying for it but everyone here knows that being devvers themselves

Be very careful with any data files of ID Software Unless its the shareware files, if they find out you could be heading for legal trouble.

Abandonware doesnt mean anything to them.

Just a friendly word of advice :)

There's no legal definition of 'abandonware'.
That's just a term coined by pirates to make themselves feel better.
I thought linking to WAREZ sites was frowned upon in these forums?

#101667 - TJ - Thu Sep 07, 2006 7:21 am

I wouldn't exactly call this a "warez" site here...

There is considerable confusion about the term "abandonware", just like the mythical law where you can keep a ROM for 24 hours. As you say, both are just terms or concepts that people like to use to make them feel better about piracy. This certainly isn't the first time an innocent person was fooled by such things.

#101670 - Darkflame - Thu Sep 07, 2006 8:31 am

If ID is saleing it, its not Abandonware anyway.

Also, ID has been very good company over the years giving us some fantastic engines to use. Lets not piss them off.

Theres a big difference from piracy on something you cant possibily pay first-hand for anywhere, and piracy just to save yourself money.

If something is truely abandoneware, then I see no moral reason not to pirate it.
Even though they are both illegal, theres quite a big difference from a moral/ethical standpoint. imo.

The same applys to the emulators we are talking about freely, incidently.

Sierra games? How well do they run? Can I play QFG4 on it?

#101678 - Sektor - Thu Sep 07, 2006 11:17 am

None of the QFG games use AGI, so no it won't run QFG4.

Hero's Quest (QFG1 EGA version) could be possible if someone ported freeSCI but that one requires typing, so it wouldn't be so fun on a DS.

#101928 - TheChuckster - Sat Sep 09, 2006 12:59 am

MAME has many components so it would be a difficult port, and the DS wouldn't be capable of emulating a lot of arcade games.

#101973 - amiga - Sat Sep 09, 2006 9:59 am

There is already a emulator similar to mame called marcaDS http://www.portabledev.com/pages/ds/jeuxdev.-perso/marcads.php with some classic games working on it.

I really would like to see new versions of this emu with new games and sound.

#101993 - tepples - Sat Sep 09, 2006 4:46 pm

But would these emulators be good for anything but playing pirated roms? As I understand it, the homebrew scene on various arcade hardware platforms is even smaller than that on the NES.

I was going to see how hard it would be to port / compile Stella for the DS, but TheChuckster is already working on it.

*Wonders off to test Breakout, Pong, ..*
