I would assume it was going to be some proprietary form of automatic setup, until Nintendo decided to just go with AOSS.

maybe if someone was able to get the code for the official wi-fi settings we could figure out what it means

Or maybe we could stay legal so Nintendo doesn't have a reason to shut the site down.

I think Japanese WiFi games have a real button for this. It appears between the AOSS and Manual Setup buttons. When you press it, it has the green spinning thing just like this "Simple Start" thing. Although I can't read Japanese so I don't know if it's the same thing...

If not that, it could be beta, hence moving it to position 0,0 and making it 1x1, and the apparently glitched graphics when you click it.

Of course the real question is does it serve any purpose to homebrewers? ;-)

[edit] I poked at the corner in other WFC and firmware menus to see if similar buttons existed, but didn't find anything. The WFC menu looks and acts the same if your DS is in Japanese (the menu is even still in English).

That's it. I just tried with a japanese game and there is a third button with a weird icon. When I touch it, it goes to the green-thing-spinning screen and then fails.

Yeah, I wondered what that third service in my import version of Opera DS was.

It has a nice icon :-)

you guys were right, it's nothing exciting, simply a different connection method which is only used in japan. I guess they didn't completely remove the code for it in the north america/europe versions. see here for info:

in particular this picture shows the extra button:

I didn't think it was anything special, but there's still the potential to exploit it. :-p
