Radio is findable on the net as long as I know, as Online Radio.
You can play Online Radios on your DS with DSOrganize.

TV is findable on the Web too, but not playable on the DS this time.

well, in theory you can stream it with some programs, but it would be stupidly slow.
(2 seconds per frame :p)

Or you can speed it up, but end up with a "video" quality so poor it's not watchable (ascii art).

MoonShell DPG video is about 256 kbps. DS Wi-Fi has a nominal rate of 2000 kbps, though the actual throughput is significantly less. What would be so hard about streaming a DPG?

2000/256 < 8 fps. And real-time DPG converting, isn't that slow? But as long as it's faster than 8 fps.. it would work. The current wifilib would never reach 2Mbit, by the way.

But yes, I'd also like to see it done anyways.

That's 256 kilobits per second at 15 fps (192 kbps video and 64 kbps audio), not 256 kilobits per frame.

On my nearly 6-year-old PC with an 0.866 GHz Pentium III CPU, conversion to DPG generally runs at 200% speed: an 8 minute short finishes encoding in 4 minutes. Faster CPUs will obviously finish faster.

I just ran a test: on this 1.6 GHz Sempron processor, a 1:30 (min:sec) video transcoded in about 1:24 on the High profile on BatchDPG, at 15 fps, 192kbps video, and 56kbps audio. The same settings on the Low profile finished in 0:47. So, it'd work for me on Medium or Low, easy.

It will also vary depending on the input video. A regular old MPEG file will transcode a lot faster than XviD/DivX or especially something like h.264. (Edit: My input file was XviD, 640x480)

Pepsiman was able to do this over dslinux. From what I saw, it didn't look very good, but I'd bet it could be refined over time to work pretty well.

That's over DSLinux with a gazillion other pieces of equipment doing the work :b

it's a spambot...

#105561 - tepples - Mon Oct 09, 2006 4:56 pm

Not everything posted by a spambot is in fact spam. If it's on-topic and inspires thoughtful discussion, it's not spam, as far as I can tell. Heck, it might even inspire someone to make a streaming video player.

Not just ascii, I think he did a remote desktop to a machine that was displaying video.. either way, both "solutions" are complete garbage.
