While I was working on a wifi configuring application, I was testing some unknown variables, trying to solve their purposes. I already found the Lite brightness at boot bits! ;D

Anyway, can everyone just try the above test and give me the results?

The test will first show a lot of variables, then it will print out your WiFi #1 profile (if you see 0.0.0.0 everywhere, the profile uses DHCP). I need those first variables values.

Please report your hardware as well! Thanks,
- Lick

telamon: i forgot to add the test was done on a lite.

Thanks telamon! I'm particularly interested in the Rsrv5 variable. On my hardware it's just 6. Oh and I get 504 on Rsrv4 as well.

Where? I thought MoonShell saved the config somewhere in a file, instead of in hardware. Can't find it in the src (141)
http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?p=85748#85748: this guy says it isn't possible to permantly change the brightness while in homebrew, saying it is weird. I'm still checking MoonShell source.

[edit] Upon checking the MoonShell closely to see if he gets and sets the bootup brightness, I must say that he doesn't. He only uses the powermanagement bits, which is temporary and not permanently (in user settings, thus loaded by firmware).

Thanks Ted!

Oh, sorry. But there was an application called ALite, no source was released. It saved the setting to firmware :|

Fat DS, was FM version 3 now flashme V6.

Rsrv0: 5
Rsrv1: 0
Rsrv2: 0
Rsrv3: 0
Rsrv4: 504
Rsrv5: 31494
rtcOf: 194282040
Rsrv6: 0

#105762 - TJ - Wed Oct 11, 2006 7:38 pm

My launch day DS running FlashMe v7:

Rsrv0: 5
Rsrv1: 0
Rsrv2: 0
Rsrv3: 0
Rsrv4: 504
Rsrv5: 518
rtcOf: 157591620
Rsrv6: 0

My wife's launch day DS, also running FM v7:

Rsrv0: 5
Rsrv1: 0
Rsrv2: 0
Rsrv3: 0
Rsrv4: 504
Rsrv5: 32518
rtcOf: 3600
Rsrv6: 0

Perhaps it is pure coincidence; but my birthday is 6/20, her's is 8/1. Both of those appear in our respective DS's outputs, though not in the same field on both of them.

#105763 - Lick - Wed Oct 11, 2006 7:56 pm

Thanks masscat & TJ!

As for the birthday, I don't think it is. Those have their own variables a few bytes before rsrv5.

Incase it matters, it's a Japanese "old" DS (FM v7) from when they just released the new colors over there. (Yay, pink! XD)

Okay, I think it's time to post the results so far:

Code:
Binary representation of RESERVED5:
111101100000110 = fat
111110100000110 = fat
000010100000110 = fat
000001000000110 = fat
111111100000110 = fat
111100100000110 = fat
000001000000110 = fat
111111111101110 = fat
000001000000000 = fat
111111000000110 = lite
000000000000110 = lite
000011000000110 = lite
000001000000110 = lite
000011000000110 = lite
111111100000110 = lite
000001000000110 = lite

Looks like the first 3 bits (right to left) are always set to 110 (which is 6). The latter bits aren't random, but I still have no clue what they are. Could they be version numbers? Continent specific codes?
Could use some more dslite tests.

Thanks everyone,
- Lick

Added your setting to the list, thanks heyyouguys/onekelly!

Yes, I added the permanent brightness level code to DSLiveWeather and also fixed some bugs (the weird time bug.. hehe).

Non-DHCP. Tested using my regular DS from eBay. About a year and a few months old. Firmware updates: 1, 2, or 3 => FM3 (?) => FM7. Booted using GBAMP CF, DSOrganize Grey version, DSO method.

Hmm, it looks like the least significant nibble my Rsrv5 is different from everyone elses. Worth looking into, no?

Hope you find the answer you're looking for sometime soon!
