Hmm, it hasn't improved very much. The hard way is using Virtual PC to patch your homebrew ...

libfat works on SC Lite without any patching but it doesn't support directory listing and it's relatively new, so it's not widely used.
What exactly does the patcher do? I ran frodoDS.nds through the patcher and it only changed 39 bytes. It should be pretty easy to recreate the patcher in Java or python. I'll leave that job to someone who actually owns a SC Lite and microSD card.

I don't think so...I'm pretty sure you just put the firmware file on your SD card and then run it.

there is just a set-up.exe file it looks like now, with a .bin file too. there's no .scu file unfortunately.

Isn't the .bin file the upgrade firmware?
#108372 - AnalogMan - Wed Nov 08, 2006 5:44 am
Yes, it is. BIN files are complete Supercard updates. SCU files are upgrades to the existing firmware.

well, damn me backwards with a wooden spoon! you're right! still, i think i'm going to have to sell it and get something bigger that will definitely work with my mac. like a printer.

So in other words, we need to wait until devkitPro r20 (that is, apparently indefinitely) for decent SC Lite support in programs that use opendir().

There is this one build that seems to have reading and writing on SCLite. Still no directory functions though.

Yes, I have already read about it in the 10 pages libfat thread... But what does it mean exactly ? Because, for now, what I think is a way to go over the problem easily is to use a "software FAT" : a file which contains the file listings of all directories (kinda Linux' ls -r dump file) and which you update when you need it ! Of course you can't make new directories (if I correctly understood what the problem is) but does it really matter ? Use the PC to do it then update the software FAT !

Don't be so pessimistic. Paypal-donate instead... :)

That's a neat idea. One could even write an NDS application, that utilizes another fatlib to create the "directory file" then use libcartreset to return to the bootmenu. This way, it doesn't have to be done on the PC.
Bright! But what fileformat would the "directory file" be?

name | directory | size | creation_date | modification_date | owner (...)
It's up to you and your needs ! Personnaly I don't feel like "creating a standard" or this kinda things, I just want to be able to read and write data an application of mine would have created. Thus I only need to create a blank file --"I haven't created anything yet"-- and add to it after each new created file --"today I have written this file"-- so I can use this history to know what is (supposed to be !) stored.

Pessimism comes from 3 months of silence on the front page of devkitpro.org despite my donation.

There's no release date planned ? Maybe it means current devkitPro is sufficiently mature ?

Last time I checked, both devkitPro and libfat were open source project. You are perfectly free to make directory listing work any time you want tepples.

I would, but how long would it take to go from 0 to enough knowledge about MS-FAT to be able to hack the code without destroying my CF cards?

If you're dedicated enough, you could probably put together some hack in a week or two, I'd imagine.
