The first step to seeing if something can be done is to break it down into steps:
  1. Make a numeric keypad.
  2. Make pop-up menus.
  3. Make the business logic.
Which step do you need help with?

Hmmmmm, it would be nice to be able to grab live currency data from the internet. Does anyone know of any sites that push such data? There must be at least one...

its just concept for the Neoflash Compo 07 well i will be thinking about it and yes where is a site for Live Currency information data

You might be able to route conversion requests through XE.com using a simplified HTML template.

Perhaps if you look at the php source code (which is provided) from this site you might be able to make a working app out of it.

I'm sure there must be some site or other that provides RSS feeds of this data. That might be easier to use...
