MoonBooks is an extension of my Literary Greats library on cd project you?ve probably not heard of. These books are in the public domain and are formatted specifically for use with the fabulous MoonShell for the Nintendo DS.
I?m hoping this project, and any others like it will expand upon the interest programs like Brain Age has created in the video game industry, and cause Nintendo or some other company to release something like MoonShell (or any other text viewer) to the general public, as the books are already available and freely (and legally) available.
So basically... books in the public domain specifically formatted for use with MoonShell. Nifty huh?
Oh yeah... here's the url: http://moonbooks.stonecypher.net

Nice idea.
I already read many out of copywrite things on my DS.
I use DSOrganiser, mind...two screens and bookmarking give it a huge edge, imo ;)

The latest Moonshell does seem to have some kind of bookmarking system...

I for one really like the new bookmarking system. It seems to work excellently!

Wasn?t stonecyhper the one who posted lies on Dragonmindeds Blog ? Which was THE Main Reason Dragonminded left the scene ? If I think about that what youngmx wrote into his blog about stonecypher, somehow, but only somehow I start to hate Stonecypher...
Darn... He?s an f*****g Idiot isn?t he ? Now he tries to persuade us that HE is a good guy WITH MOONSHELL BOOKS ?
Sorry I that sounded a bit hard, but I neded to say this...
#112069 - bobslack - Tue Dec 12, 2006 10:58 pm
I'm not Stonecypher, he did however, nicely and freely give me the webspace to put together the MoonBooks project.
#112074 - RVK - Wed Dec 13, 2006 12:06 am
Moonshell is crippled and useless for e-book reading without wordwrap.
DSOrganize is the way to go.
#112080 - bobslack - Wed Dec 13, 2006 1:46 am
Actually, the wordwrap issue is why I decided to release books specifically formatted for use with MoonShell.

If my favorite PD (or otherwise Free) titles aren't available, but I want to contribute them, how do I go about reformatting them?

Does anyone know if these books work with the new infantile Paralysiser application NDSkybookM??
or is that Japanese only?

@Bobslack:
Sorry for talking rubbish.... ;( But I just was upset when I read about stonecypher... BTW:
Moonshellbooks aren?t too bad, but wouldn?t it be better if we invented a kind of Moonshelltext Converter ?
#112158 - bobslack - Wed Dec 13, 2006 8:29 pm
No problem. Stressful time of the year. :)
I have been converting them 'by hand' so I'm going to be looking into a quicker way to go about it. Soon as I figure that out I'll let ya'll know.

What kind of reformatting do text files need to be viewable in Moonshell? I thought the Mediaplay-extend plugin for the G6 was just the same as Moonshell but with a new GUI, that's what I use and TXT files don't need any special formatting, there's no problem with word wrapping that I see and also you can use both screen (either horizontally or vertically), set multiple bookmarks. Maybe the G6 plugin has an improved text function, though. The only thing I wish it had was more font options.
Anyway, yes I use my DS all the time for reading out of copyright books, historical texts and articles. Your site archive looks nice, maybe I'll find some stuff there that I hadn't thought of downloading. In fact...I think I'll get that Lovecraft stuff right now. I haven't read any Lovecraft in a long time.
EDIT: Metapad is a really useful freeware tool for reformatting text files, by the way. It can do line-breaking and character replacement and stuff like that really easily.
...word is bondage...

I was planning to try to fix the word wrap issue in Moonshell, but I never got around to it. :-/

I basically change line length to 40 or so characters. I've not had a chance to check out the G6.
Also, I'm taking requests, I plan to do one author a day till the 25th or so.
Feel free to email any at btmullins@gmail.com

Probably nobody cares :), but here's a Perl script that will/should wrap lines in a given text file to the length supplied.
wrapper.pl

sorry for being stupid :)
but exaclty how do you reformat the text? I have tried some stuff but either it just messes the text up or nothing seems to happen..
maybe write a simple guide on your page so people can help?
#112856 - bobslack - Wed Dec 20, 2006 9:24 pm
I posted some info on how to re-format text on the moonbooks forum, here's a link.

#112866 - dantheman - Wed Dec 20, 2006 10:32 pm
For something like that, the Perl script that tyraen posted might be one of the easier things to use. Granted, you have to have Perl installed, but after that it's as simple as any other command-line program.
I used it to format Huckleberry Finn so I could read 11 chapters of it in one night.
