DS Misc > Free Developer Blogs and Websites!

#119552 - FifthE1ement - Sat Feb 24, 2007 6:28 am

You can now get your very own WordPress developer blog for FREE on the Moddz Network! Moddz news has opened a new information Wiki and WordPress Blogs system to support the homebrew community. The Moddz Wiki can be edited by any member and will contain every facet of information about the Nintendo DS, device information, compatibility charts, homebrew, and more! Blogs are used much like websites, and in the DS homebrew scene for updates, releases, downloads, etc.

The Moddz Blogs are open to any user or developer that wants their own free, personal, WordPress Blog. Although mainly designed for DS homebrew developers, sign-up is open to all Moddz users. Moddz also offers webspace, email accounts, and FTP accounts for any developer and/or user that requests it via our contact page. Check us out at www.Moddz.com!

Keep up the great work,

What advantages are there over using the official WordPress.com service?

#119684 - FifthE1ement - Sun Feb 25, 2007 7:22 am

Well, for one I am also offering free email, ftp, and webspace which you can't get on other sites. Also, the blog or site that you create is hosted within a homebrew community, which means you?ll get much more traffic and more users will visit! If anyone else has any questions fire away!

Hmmmm, well, I'll give it a look, but I already have a Dev-Scene blog for this kind of thing anyway and I don't think I'll fill up the 50mb storage space with source just yet :-)

On a related note: Does anyone have good suggestions on where to get hosting not only for a website but also shell rights - let's say for a DS homebrew application that is using WiFi and needs a server counterpart to communicate with.

#132874 - tepples - Sat Jun 30, 2007 9:26 pm

Why would it need shell rights? Why could the server not just use some request-response protocol over HTTP, like SOAP (but possibly without all the XML baggage)?

The FTP you gave me still gets a 503 Authentication Error. Could you fix it or put the redirect back in

For speed, maintainibility, logging and various reasons you may have counter-arguments for, but also because there is already a threading *nix server app version ready handling multiple clients simultaneously through TCP/IP. Other reason would be that client and server share partially same code, and due to client platform choice the used programming language is C.
