I have done everything I can. I have much experience in coding and file trans. between my PC and my DS. But I have one small problem. I need help with this from someone who has knowledge of the DS "imposter 'Pod" homebrew. Here is the problem:
I have had my Linksys wireless adapter (PCI) for a few years now. I have located the Ralink 2560 series replacement software after a good deal of searching. I have also located the WMB.exe program for sending homebrews to DS download play. I only need some feedback on how to replace the drivers on my PCI Adapter with the replacement ones. ONce I have this finished, I should be able to run wmb.exe without a problem. Can anyone tell me where I should look to find my drivers? I'm running XP with SP2.
Wires, WiFi and all that Jazz,

Can some mod tell if this is just the same guy making multiple accounts? I find it hard to believe that 3-5 users would randomly decide to register at the same time to post similar-sounding questions about the exact same homebrew application.
Regardless, open up Pictochat and eject your DS cartridge. Tell us what color the screen turns (it's a harmless test, don't worry).
#121547 - gizmo - Tue Mar 13, 2007 2:06 am
Wow.....I cannot believe youd think I would fall for the stupid take out the cartridge while playing trick.....never has worked on me.....never will. I haven't made multiple accounts. I just need an answer.

Unless the homebrew app gets mentioned in a magazine read by over a million people.

OMG if it wasn't obvious enough. Anyway, everyone is avoiding the point. I just need to know how to install the replacement drivers.
#121553 - dantheman - Tue Mar 13, 2007 2:33 am
I wasn't trying to screw you over. Seriously, ejecting your card during Pictochat is a known test of your DS firmware. If the color indicates that you have a DS with firmware version 4 or higher, you cannot use WifiMe, and therefore it would be usless to help you with the wireless drivers as the only things you'd be able to send with WMB would be officially signed demos.
It doesn't harm your game card since neither slot-1 nor slot-2 is being accessed while in Pictochat mode.
#121557 - tepples - Tue Mar 13, 2007 3:22 am
If you don't want to TakeMeOut, I'll give you the quick answer: Every DS made since fall 2005 has the new firmware, so it'd be better to either buy a microSD adapter for SLOT-1 or buy a booting card plus an SD/miniSD/microSD adapter for SLOT-2.

i thought all ipod homebrew was linux related? the topic suggests something like porting ipod linux homebrew to the dslinux which would be a good idea.
regardless this topic has nothing to do with development, should be moved to ds misc.

I expect there'll be a lot of newbie-ish questions revolving around this since the article mentioned gbadev.org forums, and was specifically referring to the iPod DS thing.
How wonderful that all effort side-stepping the trademark name was killed by a magazine's cute little article.
Anyway, I didn't see a specific reference to whether you're using an old DS or a DSL. You're better off following the advice given later and investing in a newer media device since the wifime hack stopped being a viable option after the new chipsets were introduced.
#121657 - gizmo - Tue Mar 13, 2007 8:28 pm
Alright, one. Not a newbie. Get into your head. Two. I bought my DS when they first came out, and I mean first thing. It is the first firmware version and the screen freezes when I take out the card in pictochat. My DS is the first model. So I do need to bother with replacing the drivers. Can I get a straight answer????
#121661 - TheYak - Tue Mar 13, 2007 8:40 pm
Don't take the newbie thing as an insult. You've taken every piece of advice as a veiled insult from the beginning.
The purpose of taking out the card is to get it to freeze, but depending upon the color of the screens when it freezes, you can determine your firmware version. Only certain versions will work with various techniques. The link posted before elaborates on this.
As far as getting it to work with wifime, following the instructions should work.. is the network card actually one listed as being compatible with the hacked drivers?

And if it just freezes without turning the screens a solid color, you have v1, and WiFiMe plus a SLOT-2 card should work.

Okay. I've kinda, by all of these replies, figured out I have fw v1. I have no problem with that, but the only prob now: I have a Linksys WMP54G wireless PCI card, and I have checked the compatibility down to the last code and bit, and it is compatible with WiFiMe. But now when I try to do a Hardware Update or replace the drivers it gives me the usual: "None of the information is related to your hardware" and won't let me replace the Ralink drivers. I've even checked the official drivers and they are Ralink, but it won't let me replace them with more Ralink drivers. And I'm really positive that my card is on the compatibility list. Even check here.

If you want to play with LMP (iPod clone) you really need a flashcart. A WiFi adaptor alone is not enough because you need something to store your songs on.

You could always use SylphAMP. It uses Winamp to stream music off of your computer and play it on the DS. Helpful when my iPod is dead, and I can wash dishes with my laptop a few feet away. I make use of things in the most pointless ways. =D

I am not using the ipod clone, I am using the DS Ipod homebrew. The only thing the same between the real thing and the homebrew is the click wheel. Otherwise, the homebrew looks nothing like a DS. Just wanted to clear that up. I need to set up WiFiMe, And I only need DS Download Play and the Wireless Card. When you use the command window to execute wmb.exe it sends a transmission to your DS. As long as you have firmware version v4 or lower, it works when you go into DS Download Play. As long as you have FlashMe installed on the DS as well, you can run unsigned homebrews on your DS. I have firmware version 1. The first generation DS's.

That's a pretty confusing statement. I take it you mean you don't have an mp3 player that looks like a ipod, you are intending to use lmp-ng. Please don't refer it as "DS ipod homebrew". I'm sure the coders of lmp-ng don't need the hassle of Apple trying to sue them
Although this just confuses me more:

What do you mean by that?

I too am completely confused by your last statement. You are trying to run LMP-ng, correct? The DS media player that looks like an iPod? Like felix said, it won't do you any good, since you will have to have a media adapter to store the songs on anyway.
Even if you figure out how to send WifiMe through WMB, all it does is boot a slot-2 flash cartridge in DS mode. Like you said, you must have FlashMe installed to send unsigned homebrew through WMB. However, you cannot install FlashMe if you don't have a media adapter in the first place. Theoretically, you could use WMB to send WifiMe, which can launch the Flashme file stored on a slot-2 device, after which point you can use WMB to send unsigned homebrew.
The point is that you will have to spend some money some way or another. I would suggest getting a slot-2 device. Put Flashme on the media card and use WifiMe to boot it. Then add your music and LMP-ng to your card, boot up your DS, and launch LMP.
#121801 - gizmo - Wed Mar 14, 2007 10:29 pm
Alright, sonny_jim. What I meant is that I was using a program made by a few developers. A small company. I am using a custom made mp3 program that is NOT related to the ipod except for the click wheel on the bottom screen. That brings me to my second idea. What I meant the second time was the only thing that is the same between the REAL IPOD and the DS media player is the click wheel. Hope THAT clears something up......
#121805 - dantheman - Wed Mar 14, 2007 10:58 pm
So are you basically saying that you're trying to run LMP-ng? If the answer is yes, then I'm pretty sure all of us in this thread already know about what it is.
To verify, you are talking about this homebrew program, correct?

#121813 - gizmo - Thu Mar 15, 2007 12:37 am
Not to be cross, but NO. Just NO. I am using a homebrew that is operational, but was discontinued. BUT it still wor-yeah. Yeah I'm using that one. LMP-ng. I figure no one believes me if I say I'm using another homebrew.
#121814 - dantheman - Thu Mar 15, 2007 12:56 am
LMP, aka Lick's Media Player, used to be known by another name, something like DSPod or DS iPod or something. The name was changed right about the time it got discontinued. The very last release of it was the first version to offer sound support, though it was very choppy. Here is the original thread for it: http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?t=11800
Lucas took the source for Lick's Media Player and updated it to work better, act more like an iPod, and playback mp3 files without the choppiness of the previous version. This modification he called LMP-ng.
If nobody believes you, it's because you refuse to tell us what the actual name of the homebrew program is called, and as far as I am aware there is no other iPod clone for the DS. Therefore, all we can do is assume. From what you say, it almost sounds like you're using a private program that was never released publicly, in which case there's no point in asking us about it. If you're using the discontinued version, I have to ask why, as LMP-ng supercedes it and is greatly improved.
#121822 - Dracker - Thu Mar 15, 2007 4:29 am
Wifime requires specific hardware to work ... I think only some versions of the WMP54G even supports it.
Honestly, someone starting out in DS homebrew should just get a slot-1 card now. It's the cheapest way to go. No wifime needed, no passme needed (it's built in), no flashme needed ... definitely the simplest.

And you miss out on GBA homebrew unless either 1. you get a SLOT-2 card too, or 2. you port the games to the DS yourself.

A lot of people I talked to don't mind this limitation, or think it's not worth the extra cost of a slot-2 + passme (or slot-2 + wifime-compatible card) over a slot-1.
I would think gizmo would want the minimum hardware required to run the media player on his DS.

Okay, one, I am NOT new to DS homebrew. My other computer has WiFiMe installed on it and the drivers are replaced. I have already flashed FlashMe v7 to my DS. YOU DO NOT NEED A DS LITE IN FACT THE DS LITE HAS THE NEWEST FIRMWARE VERSIONS AND WILL NOT RUN WIFIME OR PASSME IT WONT EVEN RUN FLASHME I CAN'T EVEN GET WMB TO EXECUTE PROPERLY ON IT. I use my DS and that works fine. I guess the only way to solve my problem now would be to just buy a new wireless card since I have gotten rid of both my old computer and the old card just a couple of weeks ago.
#121949 - dantheman - Thu Mar 15, 2007 10:02 pm
Because capitalizing RANDOM WORDS in a sentence is REALLY COOL... >_>
Regardless, all I know is that after the DS Lite's release, it was found that WMB could not correctly send files to them. A newer version was released that fixed the problem. You said you sold the computer and wireless card though, so I guess you can't test if that was the issue.
#121952 - gizmo - Thu Mar 15, 2007 10:48 pm
Yeah....wellllllllllllll........I guess that since I have sold my old computer, I should either just flash whatever program I need to my sd card and use my supercard, and I don't believe I NEED to use WiFiMe to get homebrews on the DS, but I could just buy a new card. If anyone has any other suggestions, I would like to hear them.
#121954 - dantheman - Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:02 pm
You said that you already flashed your DS, so using just a Supercard SD plus an SD card should work fine. Once FlashMe is installed, you do not need to use WifiMe at all.
#121985 - Dracker - Fri Mar 16, 2007 4:08 am
If this is correct:
-Your DS has FlashMe
-You have a Supercard
Then you can just download LMP-ng form here:
http://www.cecm.usp.br/~lucas/lmp-ng/
Download the DLDI patcher and the Supercard DLDI from here:
http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/
Patch the binary with the DLDI using those tools
Copy the patched binary to the flash card
Copy your mp3s to the flash card
And everything should work. And if you have any problems with those instructions I'm afraid you'll have to retract your statement about not being new to DS homebrew ;)

Depending on the supercard version it may not be necessary to patch with a dldi at all. I know mine ( SuperCard miniSD ) works fine without patching.

Well, I just found out that we all have been wasting our time. There is a new SLOT-1 DS card that has a slot for a micro sd card. All you have to do is flash the homebrew-whatever it may be-to the micro sd. Take out the sd and put it in the ds cartridge and put the cartridge in the ds. Boot it up, and you don't even need flashme!!! I AM SERIOUSLY TICKED OFF.

YOU dont NEED FLASHME on ANY homebrew launcher / DEVICE, you could ALWAYS USE A NOPASS, wmb is NOT THE ONLY way to boot homebrew you know......
#122089 - gizmo - Fri Mar 16, 2007 11:23 pm
MY POINT EXACTLY, BUT YOU DONT EVEN NEED TO USE NOPASS! THIS CARTRIDGE ALLOWS YOU TO USE ANY HOMEBREW ON YOUR DS WITHOUT ANYTHING, NO NOPASS NO FALSHME, NO PASSME, NO CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
