DS Misc > How to use homebrew

#122754 - Bjohansen - Wed Mar 21, 2007 8:07 pm

Hello guys :)
Im new to this, and I have never used homebrew before..

I got a Nintendo DS and I want to use it for something more than just the games.

So I wonder what I need to for example run "beup" or the "Ipod-clone".
Does it work with the Datel Max Music? (Click, sorry for the norwegian page, but you at least see the product)

Or do I need something else?

edit: can I use M3 DS SIMPLY ?

Many of us recommend M3 DS Simply (or R4DS, which is the same product). As far as I can tell, the "MAX Music" doesn't yet have a driver to let homebrew programs read and write the microSD card.

Okey, The M3 DS Simply is almost the same price as the Max Music.
So I think I will go for the M3 DS Simply or R4DS. :)

If I dont want to play homebrew:
Have someone tested the "Max Music" ?
Is it good quality on the music and movies?
or is M3 DS simply better to run music and movies?

Edit: Does somebody know something about the Datel Personal Media Player? CLICK

Does it work with the normal DS?

I have a card from same company (Datel) but name is "Game n' Music". Maybe it's same hardware? ** click here **

This "Game n' Music" card work fine for me. Homebrew run's without file access. In the package is a video converter which simply converts in a format for the NDS, works fine and fast with mpeg2.

At this website: http://uk.codejunkies.com/news_reviews.asp?c=GB&cr=GBP&cs=%A3&r=1&l=1&p=17&i=8996&s=8
They says thay the Max Media Player can run homebrew. It will be weird if the simple version can't.
The only thing that is different, as I can see, is that the Media Player got a slot 2 harddisc.

Anyone tested the Nintendo Mp3 Player?

Okay, here we go.
1) Nintendo MP3 Player can only be used for music and movies. No homebrew.
2) If you want to use homebrew that is worthwhile, don't get a datel product. Just get an M3Simply or R4DS. They work so much better.
3) Well, Moonshell, which is useable on M3Simply and R4DS, has great video quality with version 1.71 and the videos take up less memory on your card.

So the final word? Just get an M3S or R4DS. They're better.
