DS Misc > So do any emulators run Moonshell?

#123994 - HyperHacker - Mon Apr 02, 2007 11:46 am

DeSmuME: "Error this file is nds"
iDeaS: Will be done downloading in 12 minutes. WTF? 0.1KB/s? An older version I have crashes 3 times (!) upon loading the file.
Ensata: Runs, but obviously no FAT support, so doesn't get anywhere.
Dualis: White screens.
DSEmu: Black screens.
No$GBA: "The ROM image has crashed."
Searching the forum: Nothing.
Searching Google: Those 6 emulators.

Anything? :-/

[edit] Whoops, the server I was downloading iDeaS from just died. And that was the backup server, which I was using because the main server was dead. -_-

it makes no sense to run moonshell in a emulator as long as no emu can emulate slot 1 or slot 2 cartridge.

#124001 - HyperHacker - Mon Apr 02, 2007 12:14 pm

A few of them claim to support some form of CF/SD emulation using an image of the card or some such. Or does Moonshell still have the ability to embed everything into the .nds?

Hm, I wonder if I could just hack screenshot code into Moonshell.

There is currently no way for homebrew to access a file system appended to the .nds file. But if you use FCSR and the FCSR DLDI, you can build a ds.gba that MoonShell will see as a file system. But then you'll need an emulator with ds.gba support

That's gonna be near impossible (well, more costly than impossible I guess), because MS 1.71 uses ARM RealView Development Suite, which is very expensive.

Well I tried FCSR. Exactly the same results, except DeSmuMe now runs it and displays blank screens.

Oh, this is a good one. No$GBA is claiming the ROM has crashed even if I don't have it automatically started, and if I have another ROM running beforehand, the screens aren't even cleared of its image. So the ROM has crashed without even being run? >_>

it partially works in DeSmuME, that error is if you try and load anything with an extension thats not ".nds"(must be lowercase) also remember to patch it for the gbamp cf

#125610 - Ant6n - Sun Apr 15, 2007 2:24 am

so DeSmuMe emulates a DS with a gbamp cf in its slot?

#125628 - Dood77 - Sun Apr 15, 2007 6:13 am

So I'm curious, what exactly do you want moonshell screenshots for?

#125630 - HyperHacker - Sun Apr 15, 2007 6:32 am

So people can see what my skins look like before downloading them.

Ah, good idea, I've never messed around with moonshell skins but if I saw one I liked I might get one...

Yeah, but it only makes images of the default.

Does it realize that newer versions of MoonShell put their skins in /moonshl/skin/? Try moving it to /moonshl/ or even /shell/.

Moonshell is open source, and using raw framebuffer as display output. Shouldn't be too hard to make a .png/.bmp writer.

...pause...

Forget what I said, Moonshell has abstract code, no mortal can figure it out

Yeah, I took a look at it... :-S #ifdefs and #undefs everywhere, crazy indentation, etc... how can anyone write like that?

I got an old EXFS to run.

Sound is very choppy and dpg doesn't display at all.
