Just wondering, Is it possible/easy to run a backup of my own firmware (backed up myself with one of the handful of tools available) in an emulator?

Yes, NO$GBA supports running the DS firmware if you place it in its directory as firmware.bin, then change the entry point in the options to be "GBA BIOS" or something like that.

That doesnt seem to be working. Do I need to convert the .bin to a .nds/.ds.gba? would such conversion be more than just renaming it?
I cant run it on my ds either (strange?) renamed to firmware.nds doesnt load from either my r4, or gbamp.

I backed up my firmware with DSLinux and followed chuckstudios's instructions and was able to access the firmware (though it didn't launch the .nds file I originally double-clicked on). Perhaps you need the DS BIOS files as well, or maybe the GBA BIOS must also be present (I have all three BIOS files in the folder). I don't really know why it isn't working for you.
EDIT: it appears that you must have BIOSNDS7.ROM and BIOSNDS9.ROM in the no$GBA directory for the firmware to launch correctly, based on my limited testing.

Worked first time, cool. But I still cant run it on my DS. I would like to have it handy, if I need to change a firmware setting without taking out my R4.

I hate to say it, but running it on your R4 is probably not gonna happen. It's not in the NDS/SRL format, and it's encrypted and packed.

Surely the firmware was decrypted/unpacked for use with flashme, might the tools used be floating around somewhere?

It's very kind of you to share, thankyou. As the only main difference would be the light settings, I'm more than happy with this.

Thanks a lot, this is cool!

Neat! It's able to change the user settings on my DS Lite too, which confirms they didn't switch flash chips... so then why won't FlashMe install? >8^(
Heh, now can you hack it to use Rebootlib or whatever to restart instead of powering off, and kill the health warning? :-p
[edit] Pictochat has glitched graphics, and it won't detect a DS card even if I reinsert it first. It won't freeze when I remove the card either.

I have the same thing with the DS card, but Pictochat works perfectly fine for me.

The stealth version of FlashMe does not modify the health and safety screen.

I assume im correct in thinking 'technically not legal', then I assume it is illegal, but we do have flashme etc. I see no difference.

on a similar note, is it possible to run the firmware directly from flash, eg, if you are in a homebrew program, can it then launch the firmware and jump you to the ds menu?

Can you download unsigned code with this version?
