What homebrew possibilities do you think this will have?

Alot of people have been hoping for this for a while. I must say,it looks much more convenient than the PSP one.

It's a camera, right ? Record videos and movies to slot one flashcards maybe ?

BTW:
Will they include and adapter so we can use this with the DS Phat ?

Good luck getting any sort of compression to run in real time on a 67 MHz CPU.

It could record like some mobile phones... about 2 fps. Heck it could make animated GIFs!!

hmmm... motion jpeg... 3 fps... 192x256 pixels... stealth security camera... point it at a doorway... upload to a server over wi-fi... catch those crooks...

Id prefer raw bmp at a faster framerate.

Id probably have a 8GB SD in my DS by the time this comes to the UK...thats enough for, like, a minute :p
(assumeing an 8GB works, 4GB works fine in the gbamp).

More practicaly, however, would just be a generic still cam in as high quality as possible.
So we can use it with DS Drawing app's seamlessly.

Frankly, its crazy Nintendo are releaseing this "Face Training" rather then Mario Paint, which would work great with the camera.
(Mario Paint being just as much a "non-game")

In Mario Paint, Nintendo would be expected to allow exchanging paint documents with other people over Wi-Fi. But it's also likely that griefers will make AO-rated drawings and send them to E10+-rated kids, or that AO-rated paedos will ask E10+-rated kids for their name, home address, and phone number. The risk is much greater in Mario Paint than, say, Animal Crossing, because you can fit a lot more into a 256x176 pixel texture than into a set of eight 32x32 pixel textures.

It should connect with the Wii photo chanel or something, or the message boards so people can see stuff or something, i dunno. Still havent thought of any homebrew ideas myself though.

These children, apparently. The thing I hate the most about the video I just posted is that nobody uses Pictochat, they are busy playing games (or homebrew o_O)

Like all other games that allow communication between players via the internet, Nintendo could (would) just disable the communication feature unless you have each other's friend codes.

That's likely not enough. The friend-code-only game Animal Crossing: Wild World censors communication even between friends.

Metroid Prime: Hunters has both voice and text chat between friends. So do Pokemon Diamond and Pearl versions.

So this is a 256x192 camera that faces the player? :-/ I'd really like to see a multi-megapixel camera facing outward, so as to actually take photos with the DS.

Well, something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeLkjSLG7wY
[http://studierstube.icg.tu-graz.ac.at/handheld_ar/gizmondo.php]

Would be nice! As Tepples says however, it simply can't be done decently on the DS hardware

#133782 - Darkflame - Sun Jul 08, 2007 6:11 pm

AR has been done on fairly low powered phones.
A fairly low res image can probably be processed for basic "twist" rotational info, but you wouldnt have much power left over to actualy DO anything with it :p

Taking Photos with the camera would be enough, wouldn't it ?
