DS Misc > N WiFi dongle homebrew drivers download and a 404

#147334 - yellowstar - Tue Dec 18, 2007 11:58 pm

I asked about this problem in the WiFi hacking topic,
but nobody responded.

If you want to use the official Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector as a standard SoftAP or put it into Infrastructure or Ad-Hoc modes, then you can download the drivers from here: http://users.on.net/~kabeyas/nin_wifi.rar
Before you continue, make sure you have removed the Nintendo software and drivers as they will no longer be needed.

Inside the Drivers folder of my RAR file, you will find modified Buffalo drivers. Install these drivers for the USB Connector. Then download the ASUS software from here: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/wireless/WL-167g/eng_2371.zip and install that. When it prompts you to restart, select No. I have found that there is no need to.

I got a 404 for the second link.
Could somebody post a mirror?

I don't have a Nintendo dongle right now.
But,
I intend to get one.
It wouldn't be much use to me,
if it would only work with commercial games,
as I'm stuck with Dial-Up.

I mirrored both files at mediafire.com. I have no idea how long they'll last there (never used that service, but anything gotta be better than megaupload and freeshare and their goddamn country slots), so anyone kind enough to re-host these on safer grounds is welcome.

eng_2371.zip
nin_wifi.rar

(I'll also copy and paste this reply on that thread so others looking for it can see it.)

You forgot to do one step of the install.

Now copy the file "C:\Program Files\ASUS\WLAN Card Utilities\Driver\WinXP\AP\rt2500usb.sys" to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers". Make sure you overwrite the existing file.

At first I was going to post how to install the drivers, but then when I was
done with it, I checked your post, and it looked like you already did that, according to the second edit.

I'll do that tomorrow. (It's late here)

Here's how to install the drivers:

1. Plug in the N USB WiFi Connector, in one of the USB ports.
The Add hardware wizard should appear.
If not, goto the next step, but if so, jump to the third step.

2. Goto Control Panel->Printers and other hardware->Add hardware on left panel, under "See also". Click next, then wait for it to finish searching. Next,
choose "Yes, I have already connected the hardware", then click Next.
Chose the N connector, then click next. Choose finish. It will restart the wizard, with the actual install. Follow the rest of the instructions in this post.

3. The wizard will be shown. Click next. Click the auto install option, and continue. Deselect all the options, except the "scan in this location".
Enable that scan option. Copy and paste the directory for the drivers into the location textbox. Click next. It should find the buffalo drivers. If not, STOP. Go back, and make sure the directory is correct. If it's correct, and it's only finding the N drivers, read this post.

4. Chose the Buffalo drivers, and click next. Ignore the warning about the drivers being unsigned, and continue. Click Finish when it appears.

5. Repeat that rt2500.sys overwrite step.

Now copy the file "C:\Program Files\ASUS\WLAN Card Utilities\Driver\WinXP\AP\rt2500usb.sys" to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers". Make sure you overwrite the existing file.

You're done!
