Anything is "possible", the real question is has it been done... why not search for a ds.gba to .nds converter on google? you might be able to find something.

I found this site, which gives a little info on it:
http://dev-scene.com/NDS/Converting_NDS_to_DS_GBA

Yes it is, and no it isn't.

It depends how the .ds.gba was created in the first place. If it was done by prepending a loader, then yes you can remove that again and whats left is the .nds

That site is for nds to ds.gba :) it says mostly just renaming it works, but they have a link to a site to download a converter.

Open it in a hexeditor of your choice, and delete the header (dunno what it was: first 256 or 512 bytes, you should be able to find the nds header at one of those addresses)

1. go to http://davr.drunkencoders.com/
2. scroll down to PME2NDS converter
3. ??????
4. PROFIT

seriously though, it works pretty well

Youtube video of converting

If the ds.gba file is bigger than about 3 MB, then it probably will not work when converted. A file bigger than that will usually have an appended data archive, such as GBFS or FCSR, and will work only from SLOT-2.
