DS Misc > Nintendo DS Homebrew History and Programming presentation

#164825 - zazery - Mon Nov 24, 2008 12:37 am

I will be giving a talk titled "Nintendo DS Homebrew History and Programming" tomorrow at the Simon Fraser University Game Developers Club. If anyone is in the area you are welcome to come.

I haven't been too active compared to others in the community but have always kept up with the news. For this presentation I spent time researching and making sure I got my facts straight. I would appreciate the input and/or corrections if anyone has any.

I've found one error: RSA is only used for signing games sent via Wireless Multi-Boot (WMB, AKA DS Download Play). The DS game cards use a combination of Blowfish (a block cipher) and a stream cipher, neither of which is RSA.

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't know that.

The presentation went quite well. For anyone that is interested you can download the slides and simple minesweeper example from the link in the first post.

Unfortunately no, however I do have an audio recording. I have uploaded it if you or anyone else would like to listen to it. You can find it here. It is not as interesting as a video though. We have limited file storage for our club's website so this link might not work months or years from now. If it is not available just send me an email.

A few people have contacted me after the presentation expressing an interest in learning more. Hopefully they will be joining the community as well.

crap, this probably would've been really interesting AND I go to SFU and would've been there around the time of the presentation anyway..
