#51566 - etiennedupont - Sun Aug 21, 2005 10:35 pm

i was thinking about the piano mini game in wario ware.

does anyone have think about making some king of virtual piano ?
or a virtual synthetizer like the old rolands or something like that ?

i 'm not a developer so may be this will give some idea...
i can imagine some kind of midi creator starting from this...

I'm pretty sure this board isn't for posting random dev ideas... if you are going to have a random idea, may I reccomend you post a link to the source,... in this case, I guess- source to a synth emulator, or stand alone synth.

Would be nice but no polyphony support (you couldn't do chords). Still perhaps I'll get around to making a TB303 emulator so I can produce some acid tracks on my DS.

An TR808 or 909 drum machine would be cool as well ;)

A DS virtual keyboard would be pretty cool. I am actually going to be working on a DS DJ machine that would work similar to 2 turntables or the CDJ machines they have on the market. If my research on DS sound proves rewarding I would be interested in making addon effect boards for the sound app which could included a keyboard, drum machines, synths, equalizers, distortion, etc. Oh, and the DS can do polyphonic sounds. If you played Elecktoplankton then you know this is all possible. The DS can produce some nice sounds.

I think he meant input, Cybe. With a touchscreen, you can press only one key at a time. Shoulder button foot pedals anyone?

Yeah, I think your right about the input. Since the DS can only accept one point at a time, you couldn't play chords. But the program could have a loop feature (similar to FruityLoops, Reason, Rebirth) where you would record one track at a time. When you are finished it would loop through again and you could add other layers or fix things. It could also have a stepper, so you could step through each beat manually and adjust to chords (like the synth on Rebirth). Of course it wouldn' be a full synth, but I think it would be a lot less limiting than you'd think. Since the sounds would be generated by the chip, the songs could be very long and save within the GBA save slots. I know someone got a MOD player working, I'll like to see how that works.

You can do that anytime, good man, and I'll be very pleased :)

You could have notation on the top screen!

It'd be great 'cause I want to learn to play from notation but there's no piano where I live.

Does anyone remember that synth type of program that came with the game boy camera? Something like that would be a pretty cool start.

#51845 - joebob180 - Tue Aug 23, 2005 11:02 pm

Ive definitly been thinking of doing this, I was thinking like the gameboy camera one would be an easy starting point, and since I have the gbaamp, support for that would definitly be cool for samples.

Unfortunatly, school starts for me next week, so I have no time :(

It would be awesome to have a midi player for the DS

A midi composer such as cakewalk would be even more so!

Import a copy of Band Brothers.
It has a built in synthesizer that you can unlock to create music and save it onto the cart.

I've never played it, but I hear it's very popular in Japan, and there are several websites where you can download music people have created with it.

Man, a synth/drum machine on the DS would be so hot. You could rough out a quick beat on the go, and then download to your computer to fix it up. Hopefully it could be a modular type program. So you could load up different virtual instruments or equipment similar to the way Reason works. So the community could add their own components or skins. That would be tits.

There is actually a small piano/keyboard in Nintendogs which can buy in the shops. It only has an octave, but it lets you make piano, guitar, trumpet, and marimba sounds. There's a whole 'music' section, so there may be more instruments available.

If only one input on the touch screen can be taken at a time, how come in Pictochat you can draw a straight line by pressing down on the first place, and then tapping another with a different stylus/finger and releasing both straight away?

#52733 - tepples - Fri Sep 02, 2005 3:17 pm

It averages the locations of the touch stimuli. If you touch it in two places, it'll give a position between those places depending on how hard/how much area you're touching at each place.

That makes sense if you hold both down, as it only draws shakily half-way, but with the tap movement mentioned previously, the line is total..
