Loopy has released a new version of his Nintendo emulator for the Nintendo DS. This is a game convertor to allow your Nintendo games to run on your NDS. Changes in this release include:?

? Sound is mostly working. GBAMP is supported, but still has some issues.

Get it here

edit: when trying making a .nds file(for using with GBAMP) i'm getting "Ndstool couldn't be found"-error. anyone got it working?

wow works great on here i never expected this so soon! sound and gbamp support with direct cf reading...omfg. i cant get either probotector games to work and theres the speed problems with pal games other than that its perfect. now if snesds could have these features too....
olimar your a legend!

#51633 - BLKGHOST - Mon Aug 22, 2005 1:23 pm

You need to download ndstool and put it in the directory. It's part of the devkitpro. I don't have the web site address and I'm too lazy to go look for it. Google is your best friend ;o)

#51635 - Chetic - Mon Aug 22, 2005 1:43 pm

No update for two weeks.. not on snesDS either...
I'm worried

[Edit] Oh no! Firefox was being lame! My bad.

I can?t get it to work... I extract the .nds version into the same folder, delete nesDS.bin, run nesDS.exe, choose a .nes file, save, and then I run build.bat.... but that?s not working so I guess that?s not how I should do it.

#51645 - rmco2003 - Mon Aug 22, 2005 5:56 pm

Dragon Ball Z - Kyoushuu! Saiya Jin - works great, slight graphical glitches, but full speed and no sound errors.

strange cause there wasn't a nesds.bin file when I downloaded the emu.
but that's not your prob.
do not choose any nes file at all, just press "save". a nesds.gba.ds file should appear.
Now start "Build.bat"(make sure you have downloaded "ndstool.exe" first and put it in the same dir) and it should build you a clean .nds-file. Rename it to "_boot_mp.nds" and put it (with the roms of your choise) on your CF card.
Boot the your DS(you have PassME or FlashME...haven't you) and a rom-selection menu should pop up on the lower screen.Choose game and press A to boot game.

I wish saving would work

#51660 - BLKGHOST - Mon Aug 22, 2005 8:12 pm

Metroid works

#51680 - chava - Mon Aug 22, 2005 11:04 pm

Works fine.

But when I'm playing suddenly game stops and menu on touchscreen appears... as if someone had touched it... Am I the only one with this problem? Is my DS too 'sensitive'? hehehe...

#51683 - czc - Mon Aug 22, 2005 11:40 pm

Works great, at least for Boulder dash, great music, it's so responsive.
I don't know if there's a scaling but it looks like the original.

You can mess with scaling by holding...I think L, and touching the touch screen. It uses Tepple's Alpha Lerp technique if I'm not mistaken. Looks very very nice.

Is there any example source for the alpha lerp techniqe?

Wow, the NES emulator works perfect on a bunch of games. This is awesome. Mad props to Loopy for bringing this out. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come for the DS scene.

many good things had come yet.....

#51780 - rmco2003 - Tue Aug 23, 2005 1:08 pm

One cool feature to have would be if there's a text file with the same name as the rom on the compact flash card it would display it on the bottom screen and you could use the R button and scroll down with the touch screen, so you could display the game's walkthrough whilst playing, I think that'd be better than constantly rushing to the PC when you're stuck

#51862 - Kir - Wed Aug 24, 2005 5:09 am

Another nice feature would be ROM Browser that supports browsing in folders, not only in root directory of CF.

*agrees*

Also: What mappers are supported yet?

oh...and I just tried "Crisis Force"(a hours ago;played until now ;) ) and to my surprise: It works 100%.
Which makes me wonder cause emulating games with custom-chips is usualy pain in the butt.

i just tried out nesDS, first i had to compile a game, then i ran it and i could browse through the whole CF card on my GBAMP and play .nes roms that were allready there(for GBAMP original use)

very good work by the programmer!

edit: wow!, even smb3 runs very well, and i can take out the gbamp ingame to add more roms, plug it in and continue!

too bad there aint many nes games that are actually fun :P

edit2: and i see:
A is turbo snesA
B is snesA
Y is snesB

wtf? Is this a joke?

however.....
I made a "NESDS compatibility list"(zipped .txt) a while ago which shows you what games work, which are bugged and which do not work at all.
Every game I've tested recieved about 30-45 sec of gameplay.

I don't really know how many games I've tested but it took me 2(sleepless) nights and days,so I guess it's pretty long. <_< >_>

Have FUN

NesDS is so awesome the only real problem ive found with it (which isnt really a problem) is the lack of PAL/NTSC timing options. Nes games kick ass!

#52569 - Lukaso - Wed Aug 31, 2005 10:20 pm

lol, sorry for the silly reply, thnx for the list, great job, ill check it out.

Its just that im not really into nes, i do like some snes though

Maybe im just too young for it :P

Sorry for the useless kick, il try to post a little bit more usefull, or else just nothing, havent proved myself to be very usefull, in contradiction to all these great programmers here, thanks for all the effort guys :)

#52756 - Lukaso - Fri Sep 02, 2005 7:37 pm

But what is the nes compiler for anyway because it can load nes roms itself without compiling them....

U only need a _boot_mp.nds, why compiling?

The "compilor" is needed for people who don't have a gbamp.

Great job on nesDS, I'd never thought you'd have it going this soon! The only feature I'm sorely missing is saving to the GBAMP =P.

and it would be awesome if the saves were compatible with the gba version of pnes for GBAMP!

#53757 - tepples - Sun Sep 11, 2005 4:15 pm

That might actually be feasible, as due to their nature, SRAM files are a lot easier to make compatible across emulators than save states.
