DS Misc > What?DS'es touchscreen is temperature sensitive?

#54089 - zubiac - Thu Sep 15, 2005 3:48 pm

I didn't know that.
anyways.....SaTa seems to have developed a thermometer-programm which uses this DS ability.
I tried it already and it showed me 20degrees celcius which is my exact room-temperature.I was like "wtf?" cause I really had no clue about it.
I wonder if any games will use this feature too in some time.

Get this "strange" DS app HERE.

NOTE: Do not use translation sites(google etc) for this site or otherwise u can't download.Just go to the site and click on the link under the "button" with the blue letters(under the blue bar). Then your download should start.

any opinions or game ideas?

ok but what this translated "engrish" line mean(describtion of app):
Quote:
NDS thermometer
Operates with the Nintendo DS the thermometer

It is the thermometer which utilizes the temperature sensor of touch pad built-in.It is the source cord/code attachment.

huh?
any ideas?

I think I remember reading a while ago on this site that there are two temperature diodes somewhere in the DS.

*Searches*

Yep, http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?t=4983

See, searching is fun!

if it does read the temperature it doesnt ever seem to change

#54105 - Fatnickc - Thu Sep 15, 2005 5:52 pm

Not even if you go somewhere where the temperature is less by about 10?C lower/higher? The thread I linked to stated that the diodes are accurate to 2?C, so make sure the drop is big and then test it.

It's the touchscreen interface chip that reads temperature, not the touchscreen itself. This is meant for battery temperature monitoring, since this is a general purpose chip.

done!
The app refreshes the temperature-reading every minute or so.I put the DS into the fridge for about 3min and the temperature-scale did go down.

rofl,it works.
weird but nice

But be careful about condensation...

you just have to turn the DS off before taking it out if the fridge.
Then let the condensation dry out before powering ON again.

I put it into the fridge for a minute and it said "WARM" after this. Before this it said "NORMAL". Doesn't work well >_<
