If you've ever got help from Tepples in the past and you can afford some spare cash then help out and donate some $$$.
Tepples is always offering help here, so I'm starting a thread to ask fellow coders to lend a hand.
That's right Tepples dosn't have a DS, and computer work in his area is hard to find so he can't afford to buy one himself.
I have started things off by donating $50 to the "Tepples DS fund". I am currently "between work" so it's the best I can do at this time.
Please go here and click the donate button to show your support.

Wow, I can't believe Tepples doesn't even have a DS! How can he work without the real hardware? Anyway, Tepples has been a great help to me, so I donated $10 to the cause. I know its not a lot, but if everyone pitched in, its really not that bad.
NOTE: On the site it said donations for PSP and DS. I just want to be clear that my money was intended for a DS not PSP.
Good luck!

This is definately _not_ for a PSP ;) Hell most people can't afford one of those!
I saw a nice pre-modded Electric Blue DS on aheadgames.com for $162.88
Selected options:
FlashMe Firmware Upgrade: Yes
Developer Kit: No Thanks
SuperPass Key: No, Thanks
Full Battery LED: Default color (Green)
Low Battery LED: Default color (Red)
Recharge LED: Default color (Orange)
USPS Priority Mail
$60 donated, $102.88 to go..

I got my DS used from a local game shop for only $100 cash, no tax! A real sweet deal. The only thing missing was the thumb-strap (which now I realize is needed for some games). Other than that it was in great condition. You can also find similar deals on eBay (usually around $150 with system, games and accessories).
BTW: This topic has almost 80 views and no one else has even replied, let alone donated. If just 10 more people gave $10 each, then Tepples could have a DS. He has done a lot for the scene, its time some people returned the favor.

F**k that, I donated several hours ago and you haven't claimed it yet.

He hasn't accepted my donation yet either, so just give him a chance. He may be out somewhere, it is Friday night.

Sorry, that wasn't aimed at you. I was just a bit unhappy at someone assuming everyone is cheap just because they don't loudly announce their donation.

yeah. I donated at around 11am (here, it's now 2pm). I didn't feel the need to say anything.
Really to assume that nobody is donating just because we don't post is kind of insulting. Especially since it does come off as you telling everyone they are ingrates or cheap. :(

It seems a lot of these donations have come from credit cards. Those will have to wait until I've upgraded my account to Premier.

By sticking to the GBA.

There are separate buttons for DS and PSP now.

Couple things... First, I would suggest not getting the FlashMe'd version, and getting a PassMe/WiFiMe compatible card (at least you get something for your money) and Flash it himself.. I'm sure he is more then capable of handling that..
Second, I'd also suggest you DON'T UPGRADE your PayPal account! or, create an additional account for credit cards, and upgrade it. Upgrading sucks the life (and $$) out of donations.

My page lists a passthrough, but how can I make sure that by the time I get my DS, Nintendo doesn't start shipping the North American gray or blue DS with the same firmware as the Japanese red DS?

So does sales tax, but that's life. Too many PayPal users haven't hooked up their PayPal accounts to a bank account.

Using Paypal sucks if your not from America. You have to have an *American* bank to transfer funds directly to your account. So using the Credit Card is the only way for me.
I had no idea you had to have a Premium account just to accept Credit Card funds. That is really stupid.
Anyways, the point of announcing the donation in this thread is not to be trendy, but to help keep a running tally of how much money left is needed.
EDIT: Tepples has set up a tally on his donate page so no need to post here now.

Well I didn't see any responses, so what is the logical thing to conclude? Anyway, I have donated to similar causes in other forums and everyone always states that they donated so, as Headspin mentioned, there is a running tally of donations (ie DS wifi bounty). The more people that donate, the more likely it is that other people will donate. If no one posted a reply at all, this topic could've ended up on the bottom of the list and forgotten. And I dont see why you felt so insulted. If you did indeed donate, then you would have known I was not refering to you at all. I was mostly talking about the kind of trolls that surf the forums constantly requesting things and asking questions that are answered in the stickies without ever giving back to the community. Obviously if you donated, you are not with that crowd. I was not meaning to say anyone here was cheap. I was just trying to motivate some people to join the cause.

Some nice words there cybereality, I understood what you meant, but unfortunately, some people can be a little sensitive towards this sorta thing. There is definately a lower level respect thing going on for people who donate without acknowlegement. Personally I like things out in the open and really it was all about keeping the tally not ego rubbing. Either way, for whatever reason, there is donation going on which was the point entirely. Thanks to everyone from me, and Tepples :) I know personally that he is is very happy, which he has expressed to me in private.

Yes, bumps are appreciated, as topics like this do need to be kept alive until the bounty is achieved. Thank you all for this birthday present. (I turn 25 on 1 October.)

Unfortunately, the psychiatric community has found a strong correlation in people between skill in the logical reasoning and dedication needed for computer programming and lack of skill in understanding unwritten rules of connotations. Often this difficulty presents so profoundly that psychiatrists consider it to be a mild form of autism and call it Asperger syndrome.

Just so funny you metion autism since I was often thought as having the illness as a young child.
I know that with all the intelligent people out there that they may begin to accept that there are things people go through that they will never understand. It dosn't change who we are though. Wow that's deep ;)
EDIT: If we can get the DS before Tepples birthday that would be awesome!

But if I buy a used DS, don't I need a game in order for the PassMe to work? Given that the difference in price between a used DS (which doesn't include a game) and a new DS (which does include First Hunt) is the price of a game...
Or do newer DS systems not come with First Hunt anymore?

I suppose it was logical to conclude that. I didn't, but we are different folks.
also you said "no one else" donated. Which implies that you were talking to anyone on the board who viewed the post (or at least that's the sentence implication). And you pretty much called people cheap, just because they didn't say anything. But it's cool, because you didn't mean it to be insulting.
Tepples. I love how you post links to stuff. It's good reading. :)
edit: And I understand that my nit pick on "no one else" is partially if not exactly what the article was talking about. I'm just a stickler and a bad speller sometimes :)

Well, you can't choose to pay taxes or not, but you can choose to upgrade your PayPal account. I still suggest that you create a cash only account for people that want to send checks or cash (like I did) so that PayPal can't suck $2.00 or whatever from our donation.

Donations just broke $160. Off to the store I go...
I noticed that dspassme.com is now selling "Super PassKey w/o box", which appears to be a PassMe clone made by the SuperCard manufacturer, and they're selling for the same price. Now what's the difference between a "Super PassKey" and a "PassMe GBC Complete"?

Lynx = dspassme.com and the million dollar answer to your questions = Not a damn thing. :D
I picked up the Super PassKeys because they are just a commercially packaged PassMe at a cheap price. They actually only cost me $2 more then building PassMes.. and I don't have to build them!
w/o box is cheaper for shipping as they will fit into smaller envelopes. $1 vs $4 U.S. and $5 vs $9 for international.

Nice Tepples. If you post up a template for Luminesweeper, perhaps I can do some skins for it in my spare time.
BTW Played Lumines on the PSP for first time today, really liked it. Are you gonna implement the challenge mode to progress getting more skins/music. I prefer it over the the time limited games.

Tepples, I'd really LOVE a EXACT clone of Lumines on DS... Will you ever do it?
#56074 - tepples - Wed Oct 05, 2005 9:58 pm
An exact homebrew clone of Lumines will never happen, as for one thing, I can't afford to license the official music or the official backgrounds, and for another, each screen on the DS is still smaller than the PSP screen. The closest I can get to directly copying Lumines is the parody aspect of the current version of the "Shinin'" skin in game left of Luminesweeper.
Challenge mode of Lumines is flawed, as not a lot of people have an hour straight to play a handheld game. Meteos did it better: five minute play bursts (yes, I still suck at that game), and then you buy new skins and stuff with the blocks you pushed off the top.
Template for GBA mode is here (EDIT: fixed). The DS mode template will likely be identical save for an extra 16 pixels at the top and bottom and an extra 8 pixels at the left and right.
