#56332 - Pinesal - Fri Oct 07, 2005 11:25 pm

Since learning about NDS homebrew etc. I've been reading and trying to do research.

The problem is. There are so many versions of the same programs floating around. It's hard to find the lastest and/or best version.

I have the GBAMP with the hacked firmware and a flashed NDS incase the info is important to know

How do you guys keep up?

#56334 - Dannon - Fri Oct 07, 2005 11:56 pm

IMO MightyMax's Multiboot, Agentq's SCUMM and Moonshells's Moonshell are the best programs at the moment, all of which make full advantage of the GBAMP

#56335 - IxthusTiger - Sat Oct 08, 2005 12:05 am

don't forget Darkfader's "r0mloader"

#56336 - joebob180 - Sat Oct 08, 2005 12:09 am

Their is also the nes emulator that loads from CF, for homebrewn nes roms of course!

The new version of SCUMM is awesome, they got the timing down and the zoom is neat.

This doesn't work on the gbamp so I don't think it will be much help to Pinesal.

Darkfader's "r0mloader" ERASES the DS firmware and the GBAMP firmware and the SUPERCARD firmware.

So if you use it it kills your stuff. A FlashME'd DS can be fixed though, everyone else is screwed.

I wasn't aware Darkfader made this...somebody must have REALLY pissed him off.

It's not really my place to say much, but you know, if Nintendo got wind of thousands of people bricking their Nintendo DS all of a sudden, they're going to come down hard on the homebrewn community.

I can't really believe DarkFader would do something so despicable, but apparently the log found here: http://www.tehskeen.net/files/dsdev.20051007.log explains it all.

It's too hard to believe someone who's done so much for the community would do something so sick, and actually laugh about it in the end. Not that I'm saying pirating is good, but destroying 200 dollars worth of hardware just to get a cheap laugh? Doesn't anyone else find this a little sickening?

Yea, between this and the hissy-fit a few months ago he does seem a bit immature. :/

Blah, the sad part is he's respected in the community, so many people are going to take this and go, "It's from DarkFader, he's awesome, what could possibly go wrong?"

I thought you couldn't flash a non-flashme'd ds if you don't short the gap.

Only a part of the firmware is protected, hence you not needing to shot SL1 all the way thru flashing, or so I heard:x

Yep. Only the first block is write-protected by the SL1 contact.
The rest of the firmware isn't protected.
If you used flashme some recovery code is placed here allowing you to restore your firmware if it becomes damaged or deleted. Handy, eh?

#56443 - Ilomoga - Sat Oct 08, 2005 8:10 pm

So if I understood everything correctly the situation is the following:
This r0mloader or how it's called flashes the parts of the firmware which are NOT protected by the SL1 contact.
If you have the original firmware on your DS this will make a brick.
If you have Flashme installed you're safe, because you can flash Flashme again because restoreFW is in the protected area, isn't it?

So for homebrewer it's safer to have flashme installed than not?

Yes. That is correct.
However after spending the today keeping an eye on forum posts about this it appears that the incidents are very limited.
So it doesn't really matter.

#56493 - El Hobito - Sun Oct 09, 2005 1:25 am

i think people who browse this forum are generally safe since they're people we know with some common sense we'll be fine. If someone wants to trick you into using brickMe then it'll probably be in some program that is too good to be true(clearly not possible) such as an n64 emulator for the ds or something along those lines.
