Heh, I hate having to wait for people to connect via the "Regional" and "Worldwide" in MKDS (takes too long sometimes), but what I hate the most is people who DC (Disconnect) themselves in the middle of a race because they are losing.

So if you are serious for a challenging race, add me to your friend list =P

Mario Kart DS:

PS:

Why is it that Nintendo doesn't want us to post our Friend codes on forums and such? Can people do anything with them? With their setup, if everyone in the world had my friend code, they'd still need me to have their friend code registered in my DS to interact with them.

No, they don't want people posting their friend codes on the NINTENDO message boards. They don't care what you do with it outside of their own servers. And it's probably some legal crap. They don't want to be in any way responsible if some kid gets cyberstalked or kidnapped or something because they gave their friend code away on an official Nintendo message board. Though, there's not really anything you can do with the info, atleast as far as I can tell.

MKDS: 223397 817385
And I'll be picking up Tony Hawk this weekend.

Umm... which game? I'd take a wild guess at Kario Kart, but since the last couple of posts were AC:WW, it's hard to tell for absolute certain (even though the dash is in the wrong place for AC, I never assume)

#63148 - The 9th Sage - Fri Dec 09, 2005 3:28 am

Animal Crossing

Name of me in town is Ian
Name of Town is Jurai DS (back on the gamecube I had Jurai...so...Jurai DS)

0043-5576-8762

I'll warn you...this is experimental as I'm on a modem, so no broadband for me at the moment, I'm not sure how well this would work. I'm sure if Animal Crossing lagged somewhat it wouldn't matter though.

Don't have much to offer currently, but I got some cherries if you want them.

I guess I just missed you. But then again, I guess trying to visit 4 hours after you posted would be kinda hard since most people will get bored playing one game after 4 hours (except RPG's).

I'll keep my e-mail peeled so that hopefully I can finally visit SOMEone's town... eventually...

#63355 - DiscoStew - Mon Dec 12, 2005 8:02 am

Last night, I was up for a while doing other things while keeping my gates open, just in case someone wanted to drop by.

Right now (11:01pm PST) they are open again, but it will probably be only for about an hour. Grab an orange, and leave any other fruit behind if you'd like.

I tried to go to your town four times, but I got an error message.

<86420>"

So I don't know why I'm not allowed to visit you, but I'm going to open my gates for you if you care to visit. I'll be up for a while still, so I'll keep my DS on. I probably won't leave sooner than 12:30, and I might be on even later than that.

#63358 - DiscoStew - Mon Dec 12, 2005 10:09 am

lol, these dang problems =(
I must have just missed you about 20 minute ago, but I had some dang trouble with my DS connecting through my wireless router. Everytime I want to go online with my DS, it doesn't work, but when I use an available connection slot to see if it find an Access point, it finds one, then I test my original settings, and it then it starts working.......I hate my router....but it works very well when it is functional....

Today, I tried connecting with my cousin via WFC, and he couldn't come to my town either. I think it might have been the same code too.....

Error code <86420> is "Unable to establish UDP connection to the game server."

I wonder if it is using a different connection method than MK:DS, since I connect fine with that afaik. Gonna check through Nintendo's help sections about fixing this problem (if it is a problem on my side).

#63360 - mymateo - Mon Dec 12, 2005 10:51 am

Don't rule out the possibility that there's nothing wrong on your end. It just so happens that before I tried to connect, I couldn't get online with my computer for the life of me. My PC is also wireless. I decided to play AC for the purpose of testing the connection. When it couldn't even connect to the router, it confirmed my suspicions that the router itself was at fault. I mean, I couldn't even ping my router, yet somehow my WNIC could connect to it...

I've been a fan of D-Link for a while now, but I've head some people complain about them, and when I worked (sniff... got laid off...) at a computer store, our wireless D-Link would go down usually once a day. So when I replaced my DI-514 (which is NOT compatible w/ N's WFC), I decided to go for a LinkSys router. So far, this is the only time it's acted up. But my D-Link never acted up, except for the time when it decided to stop broadcasting the SSID, prompting me to hardwire into it. And another time I couldn't connect to the net reliably 'cause my landlord put in a buncha new equipment in his room directly above me and caused enough interference that I had to put tinfoil on the router's antenna to get reception. Damn, I still can't believe that actually worked! Still, only 2 problems in 1 year is good, compared to 1 problem in 2 weeks with the new LinkSys.

Anyways, I'm rambling. I guess the short of it is that my new router may not be all that great, so if everything looks good on your end it's probably me. But I won't speak on behalf of your cousin. :)

#63361 - DiscoStew - Mon Dec 12, 2005 10:58 am

I should have known....

I have a Netgear WGT624, and this is what Nintendo has to say about it
http://www.nintendowifi.com/customersupport/supportedRouters.do

"1/5 stars...Rarely connects successfuly to the service"

I think I just got Pwned...
AFAIK, I don't have any problems with MK:DS, but I wonder if I had a more compatible router if I'd get a lot more 4-man matches rather than getting 2-3-man matches every so often...

Well, I think I'll try some more settings tomorrow. It's very late for me right now.

Well, my router rates 5 stars on N's site. It's a BEFW11S4, and the first match I played I only had 1 opponent. It takes about 2-3 mins. to find opponents, but I still don't always get 4 people, so I don't think that consistently getting 2 or 3 people is all that bad.

Actually, the friend name/town have to be entered manually if you are trying to add a friend, unless I'm mistaken. I know I haven't run across a friend code that required me not to manually enter data other than the code itself.

yea ur right, the proper town name shows up on wifi, but on the friends list it doesnt change

#63433 - DiscoStew - Tue Dec 13, 2005 2:07 am

Ok, let's try this again...

I done a whole bunch of things to my router when my DS is trying to work with it, like giving it a static IP address, setting that IP address as a DMZ server so the firewall does not affect anything between my DS and the internet, as well as other things. From what I see right now, my "Test Connection" and WFC Connection seem faster now.

Right now (5:07pm PST), I'm trying MK:DS to see if I have any problems, then in a little bit, I load up AC:WW, and open my gates.

That's great. I never thought of setting up a DMZ for my DS. Does it really make it connect faster? Right now, it usually takes about 5 seconds to log onto WFC after the reception bars show up as connecting to the router (in Animal crossing).

#63447 - mymateo - Tue Dec 13, 2005 5:48 am

I saw you and two other people were in Azeroth just a few minutes ago (ok, 20 minutes) and I tried to join in, but got the same error message... again! I set up a static IP for my DS and stuck it in the DMZ and tried again, but still no luck. Am I ever going to visit anyone else? I've had one visitor so far, so I know it should be possible, but I just don't know what to do next. I may have been a computer technician, but networking and all that jazz were never my strong points.

#63451 - The 9th Sage - Tue Dec 13, 2005 7:23 am

I was just thinking, when you actually see a town listed in WFC, does your DS download anymore data than that? Like, I hadn't thought anyone from Azeroth had visited me, yet Blanca was in my town earlier with a face created by someone from Azeroth (not DiscoStu, someone else). It suprised the heck out of me, heh.

I guess we'll probably never know, but that's kind of interesting if it does.

#63452 - mymateo - Tue Dec 13, 2005 7:36 am

Well, I open my gates on a regular basis and/or look for a town to visit. During these times, I suspect that I upload my data and download new data about messages in bottles, modified Blanca face, etc. I see Blanca every now and again, but always with a new face. So far, no bottles on beach (except the ones generated at random) but oh well.

#63455 - DiscoStew - Tue Dec 13, 2005 7:54 am

mymateo,
hehe, I'm not much with networking either, but once you starting tinkering with things, it starts to make sense.
What I did was I went all out on pieces that MIGHT work. Here is what I did for my router (don't think it will be the same for yours, but worth a try if you can find all the things)

On router settings...
- Set a reserved IP address for the DS. (You've done this with making sure the MAC address is the same as on your DS?)
- Set that IP address as the DMZ server (You did this too)
- Disable SPI firewall (if you can).
- Port Forwarding:
--- Set UDP ports 1 to 65534 to your DS IP Address (If you have other games using specific UDP ports, you may have to work around the used ports)
--- Set TCP ports 28910 to 29920 to that IP Address

On the DS...
(Most likely your router has SSID broadcasting enabled, so by Searching for Access point, it will find your router, filling in the SSID, and, if it is requiring, enter the WEP key)
- Enter your static IP Address like you did on your router
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Gateway: 192.168.0.1 or whatever you use to get into your router settings
(By now, "Auto-obtain DNS should be set to No)
- Primary and Secondary DNS: These can be found under your Router settings under "Domain Name Server". Some people report that using 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 work, but for me, they don't

Hopefully that helps.

The 9th Sage,
I'm thinking that each time you connect to the WFC, your drawing of Blanca's face is uploaded each time, and is randomly sent out to people. I know when I first met Blanca, I didn't have a single person on my friend list, but I knew I had connected at least once to the WFC.

#63456 - mymateo - Tue Dec 13, 2005 8:16 am

Well, all I really had to change was the port forwarding. But something else I changed was my landlord's router. He's got the 'net going into a router, going into my wireless router. So I logged onto it and put my router into his DMZ. He's got some crappy MS router that has no options, so I figured that was the easiest way to remove any roadblocks it's causing. So the next time someone has their town open, I'm going to try again and see if all is good.

Yeah, that must be...in that case, I'm wondering who got the message in a bottle I sent out awhile ago and forgot about...was gonna try using it in Tag Mode but apparently it went out onto the internet. lol

I haven't added you on my MK:DS Friend Roster is because I went and deleted everyone from it. I did this before I went and began tinkering with my router, since it was having that UDP problem, and I was having problem connecting using that. Now, I believe I fixed it, and now AC:WW works, so I'm gonna be re-adding everyone from the list.

Has nobody else gotten a new game/friend code to share? C'mon, people!

Also, nobody seems to be going online lately. Everyone too busy with Christmas (a.k.a. X-Mas) or Chanukah (a.k.a. Hanukkah) or Kwanza (a.k.a. Kwanzaa) or (enter your winter holiday here) or what?

Happy Holidays!
