There are hidden tracks located inside of mario kart that I have tested out, like a test course, a test donut, and some kind of deleted track for luigis mansion, but so far the only way i have accessed this is by hacking a rom version of the game, perhaps it could be accessed via AR or some kind of device

How about some screen shots?

Would it be legal to ask for an IPS patch? :)

I think you could trade IPS patches over on PH. They even have a whole forum section set up for patches.

cant give a screen shot, no camera, i dunno if i can post a link to a tool to manipulate roms, but there is 1 out there
#62750 - Boeboe - Mon Dec 05, 2005 12:31 pm
you sure this aren't just the mission mode tracks?
#62764 - knight0fdragon - Mon Dec 05, 2005 2:55 pm
yes im sure, mission mode used the actual tracks, there is no donut track, these are debug tracks that are not accessible in the game
#62765 - Boeboe - Mon Dec 05, 2005 2:59 pm
actually, I remember giant ds'es, cakes and miniparcours :p
#62766 - knight0fdragon - Mon Dec 05, 2005 3:04 pm
its not a donut donut, just a circle track, the DS is in the battle mode, thats where that track comes from, with file names like test1 course, and testcircle course, it leads me to believe these are debug tracks
#62779 - Laintsurge - Mon Dec 05, 2005 6:35 pm
But why do they leave them in the finished game ? It's so weird.

Any possibility to unlock them by modifing EEPROM?

Mabey they want us to find it!
#62811 - knight0fdragon - Tue Dec 06, 2005 4:05 am
well they are not accessible, a lot of coders leave debug information in the game because they fear if they take it out, it may screw things up, its easier to just disable then to remove. as for EEPROM access i dunno, i had to actually muck with the rom to see these tracks, so perhaps there is an AR code that instead of pointing to 1 track file, we change it to point to the hidden ones. It would be interesting to actually make custom tracks for the game and then play them via wifi as the shyguys

You could have just said no it's not ok to ask. :P I wasn't sure, because it's not like I'm asking for something to pirate this game, or anything else like that.

And do you think it's possible to modify the WMB game MK:DS sends (like selecting other tracks)?

Lemme be the one to say: LOL
It's time for the "Revolution". Nintendo have grown up and aren't afraid to show it ;-)

damn it u dont race on a real donut, thats just what u call circle tracks
#62912 - Thomas - Tue Dec 06, 2005 9:48 pm
Could you give any details on how to modify the rom to test the tracks? I tried extracting the rom data using ndstool, and I can see some test track data in the data\data\course folder. But I don't know how I can then put these test tracks back in the game.
#62913 - Laintsurge - Tue Dec 06, 2005 9:59 pm
Yeah could you give us a guide or something to unlocking these tracks please ?

maybe just rename the tracks?
like rename course\test1.track to overwrite course\definosquare.track then play the game and try timetrial in delfino square or something? (just guessing, i dont know what the track filenames actually are)

It was a GTA Coffee Mod joke.. not a "donut" joke :P
Anyway, hmm. a Circular track, in battle mode. The link I displayed in my last message was from Mario Kart 64..a battle arena that was shaped like a Donut.
Did it look anything like this?

what u need to do is make the filesize of the test map the same size as a map that you can access(pad with 00), i used mansion because its luigis mansion, then just import it in. the file name does not have to be the same, only the size

anybody hear about Parasyte hacking MK to play the offline courses online?
#63219 - knight0fdragon - Sat Dec 10, 2005 4:01 am
that should be easy to do via the rom, of course both players would probably need this for it to work
#63220 - IxthusTiger - Sat Dec 10, 2005 4:12 am
nope, people played him online and got to race on the track too.
#64630 - knirfie - Sat Dec 24, 2005 2:44 pm
The Level 4 Boss Stage track would also make a really nice Battle Stage :)
