DS Misc > Announcing the DS Wiki

#62991 - 0xtob - Wed Dec 07, 2005 4:47 pm

Hello everybody!

You are new to DS development and want a quick overview of how to get into it?
You are stuck at some point and need help?
You have found out something handy and want to share it with the community quickly and without hassle?

If or if not one or more of the above points applies to you, then DS Wiki is what you are searching for.

DS Wiki currently provides:

  • Setup guides for beginners

  • An overview of the DS hardware and all the additional hardware you will need to start coding

  • Coding Tutorials

  • Homebrew Links

But of course there is much more to do and we certainly can't do this on our own. So please join us and help make this wiki the perfect resource for DS homebrew. DS Wiki is completely open to everybody, you don't even need an account to contribute.

What you can do:

  • Write tutorials, even if they are just handy code snippets!

  • Add any info you have on the DS hardware!

  • Write articles about tricky technical details, for example the WMB protocol!

  • Extend the links section with the finest DS homebrew sites you know!

  • Extend pages, fix errors, correct spelling mistakes, ...

Of course, if you have any other ideas that you think should be in the wiki, feel free to add them.

OK, then let's start wiki-ing!

Bye,
Juhees and Tob

Anyone is welcome to get an account on the NDSTech wiki as well (everyone who has ever asked has one). I set up the password protection to prevent poker / viakra / etc... blog spam, not to limit who can contribute (although the qualification stands that the information can't come from any illegal sources).

Since I didn't have mysql hosting at the time, I was limited in my choices of wiki packages, and the one I've chosen doesn't have a registration system, or I would have provided a link to create an account.

You're wecome to have your own wiki, sounds great. I'm just letting you know that the NDSTech wiki isn't a closed resource.

Then it might be a good idea to set up a simple account application form that e-mails you the contents. Then you can check your e-mail, review the applications, and set up accounts for the ones that look legitimate.

Does that include reverse engineered code from games?

If you are the owner of a lawfully made copy of a copyrighted video game program, and you have your own dumping equipment, then it has been ruled not an infringement of U.S. copyright to dump a game, reverse engineer it, and publish the underlying ideas. Sega v. Accolade is the most direct precedent here.

But it's only dedicated to technical infos. The DSWiki has general stuff, tutorials etc. It isn't a secound NDSTech wiki, it tries to provide, whats not on your wiki. So far we have no problem with the possibility for everyone to edit the content.
