DS Misc > New or old firmware? [Renamed]

My friend just purchased a DS new, but we are not sure if the DS has the old or the new firmware. We don't want to open the box (in case it has the new firmware).

His DS came with the Metroid Prime: Hunters -- First Hunt demo, which didn't come with his brother's DS (also purchased new). Is the presence of the MP demo mean that my friend's DS is an old firmware?

If the MP:H demo is in the box, it's an old firmware DS for sure.
