DS Misc > WFC thru ZoneAlarm & PeerGuardian

Working with Nintendo WFC v1.03.

This guide has two sections:
WFC working thru ZoneAlarm 6
WFC working thru PeerGuardian 2

Some familiar errors (that I have experienced):
Error 61020 = Some Firewall etc. blocking your connection (like ZA,PG2).
Error 61010 = Try again later...
Error 52103 = In case your existing settings worked earlier: Try again. PC bootup may help. In other case: Your Firewall might be blocking connections.
Error 85020 = Time out. Hanging around too long without partners?

-WFC working thru PeerGuardian-

I tried to connect and get Error 61020, because I have PeerGuardian 2 installed.

Here are my settings.

Nintendo USB using IP 192.168.1.1 / 192.168.1.2 (those are the default ones).

1)
Open PeerGuardian 2 -window.

2)
Try to connect in WFC with DS and PG2 will block it and
say that "GameSpy Industries" is blocked.
Right click it and permanent allow (now you have allow list).

3)
Now we add new settings.
Go to "List Manager" ->
Select: "list\permallow.p2b" -> "Open List"

You should add there (if not exist of course):

Range ......................... Starting IP ....... Ending IP
GameSpy Industries ... 192.168.1.2 ..... 207.38.11.14*
GameSpy Industries ... 207.38.11.34 ... 207.38.11.34*

Remember to click "Save" before closing it.

*I'm not 100% sure these addresses will be the same every time and then.
207.38.11.14 = GameSpy Industries ICI-GAMESPY-3
207.38.11.34 = GameSpy Industries ICI-GAMESPY-3

It's made with my Pro version. Can you or anyone test with free?

I dont think you can do advanced settings like that in free version.

Still no luck here using the same version of ZA. As soon as I start ZA, the USB Connector application *appears* to be trying to connect (has full access permissions set etc.) and there is up/download activity registering, but the DS reports with error 52103 (can connect to USB but not to server...)
Really can't figure out what is happening here. All the IP addresses are added to trusted zone, tried trusted and internet on medium/trusted off. Same error every time unless I disable ZA.
I'll see how 1.03 reacts.

SOLVED! I believe this may prove a solution for some of you having that problem.
Go into program control>programs and find Generic Host Process for Win32 Services. By default, Zonealarm has server `denied` for internet for this program. If you change this to a tick, it works and the DS can connect every time. For some reason it only seems to do so when internet zone is set to medium, but hey... at least it works and you still have ZA protecting you!

Oh, sorry. Error 52103 does not appear anymore, guide fixed.

staked, is that the free or pro version of zonealarm?

if its free, can you modify the guide to make it work with free version?

#66910 - STAKED - Sat Jan 14, 2006 9:44 am

The Pro version, same as the original poster used. You can't set some of the specific things you need to with the free version afaik.
Just a note to anyone who does enable that process as a server how I stated; DISABLE it again after you finish with playing your DS game. This is very important.
Leaving it enabled will very likely cause cause some serious problems and eventually almost 100% of the time leaving it willl cause your PC to suddenly freeze up.

Are you sure? I have had it on server mode for days now. It does not freeze anything. Maybe your Windows needs to be reinstalled?

Weird. This exact thing forced me to reinstall Windows a good four or five times before I narrowed it down to that.
Very strange.

Maybe someone is trying to hack in your system?
As you are using ZA as firewall is your Internet connection set to High?
Also do you have up to date upgrades on your XP?

If all of those are yes then I recommend to run antivirus software + rootkit detector (http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/).
