Use Rain if it works on SCSD

#67031 - AnalogMan - Sun Jan 15, 2006 1:57 am

I've done this exact thing with RAIN (I used Rain r06a that was linked by someone on this forum so I knew it worked with SC-SD, I'll try to find it. Also if anyone can tell me that the latest RAIN natively supports SD without hacks, I'd be glad to update).

EDIT: I'm assuming you already have the application to extract your patterns from the save and inject the altered ones back in. If not there's one floating about, I'll find a link if you don't have it.

Hm, does Rain work with Animal Crossing? I don't think it copied my saves right as I tried to copy one onto my DS card and lo and behold all of my progress and my entire village is wiped out (the save is not 256k like I remember hearing someplace it should be, this is with Rain 09).

Ah, with my RAIN (r06a) I've backed up and even editted the sav and restored it perfectly. If you want it I think I can send it to you if you wish. It's backed up all the games I've tried it with, but I'd keep yours just incase there's something it can't do.

EDIT: After hearing your problem, I tried RAIN r09 with my AC, used the map editor and removed my weeds, saved it, and put it back on my cart and everything worked just fine. And I used Supercard SD w/ 1GB PNY SD card. FlashMe v6

Hm, weird...how big was the save?

Well if it worked for him, I'm wondering what the save size is...perhaps it's an M3 issue to where it didn't save all of it or was slightly courrupted (it did seem awful slow in backing it up, even looked like it nearly froze at one point)...I tried it with two backups I made at slightly different times and neither of them worked. I want to say the save was 128 k, but I can't remember since I deleted them on account of them apparently being courrupt in some way anyway.

Hm, never had any problem with saves from any other game.

It was 256KB. I still have my other one that I KNOW works with AC. Just Post or PM me and I'll find a way to get it to you.

#67117 - ReRuss - Sun Jan 15, 2006 5:40 pm

Rain has a seperate option to backup a save to an M3 now , and the Backup/Restore isnt CF specific now

and I beleive saves are 256k

#67133 - unrequited - Sun Jan 15, 2006 8:19 pm

Will Rain work with my G6? Meaning if I have a G6 save, and want to write it to the retail AC:WW cart will it work?

As mentioned, RAIN will work for both BACKUP and RESTORE (I've used it with a SuperCard+CF)
Some people have had problems with older versions. Get version 9.
BTW: you must remove the PassMe before inserting the ACWW DS cartridge directly in the unit for reading/writing.

The save files should be exactly 256KB (262,144 bytes). They can be loaded into my Map editor (http://www.aibohack.com/nds/ac_mapedit.htm) or Thulinma's pattern editor (http://www.xs4all.nl/~aviator/acww )
If the MapEditor fails to load the file, it may be incomplete (don't restore it to the ACWW cartridge or you may lose your town)
Once you get a good backup, save an extra copy on your PC.

As mentioned other hardware devices should work with RAIN, but each one is different

#67150 - IxthusTiger - Sun Jan 15, 2006 9:57 pm

If it fails to load the file because of the mirror, then load your game again, and save. That should clear it up. This happened to me after forgetting that my DS was in sleep mode and taking the game out of the DS!

#67175 - ReRuss - Mon Jan 16, 2006 1:04 am

most flash carts that can run DS homebrew should work...

but if you're backing up and restoring saves , I suggest to have FlashMe...

Mine wasn't 256KB, I'm pretty sure of it. >_< I wish I knew why this happened, and why it happened with TWO different backups made at different times.

I know Rain SHOULD work, I've used it with many games before (and the new M3 dat thing is a nice feature) but it just didn't seem to work right with AC for me for some odd reason. I tried backing the save up to the dat many times also with no success...it was driving me nuts. I assumed it was just a quirk in the M3's handling of the save data or something.

I couldn't get the newest version of Rain to backup my AC save on my GBAMP, but an older version worked fine.

#67225 - ReRuss - Mon Jan 16, 2006 7:39 am

liek with SuperCard SD for example , say I used a rom , patched it and it had the dsq and .sav file , isnt it possible to write the save that I been using with a rom on teh actual cart , like say I took mario kart , threw it on SD card and just been playin it from that and got so much progress on it and wanted it on my actual cart , couldnt rain do that?

cuz I sorta just wondered since I have nearly everything unlocked on the rom backup , but not on the cart...

#67277 - m2pt5 - Mon Jan 16, 2006 6:14 pm

Haven't you figured out yet that this is not the place to ask for help with ROMs? Go to PIRACY-DOT-COM or SCDev.

That said, yes, latest version of Rain should be able to restore that save to an actual cart.

Well, I have no idea what happened when I tried to save it (I'm going on a wild limb and guessing some kind of slight courruption of my CF card that is no longer present, it is true that I have done error scanning and reformatted the thing since then).

Your saves restored perfectly fine, and it looks as though Rain 9 and 6c backed up the save fine. Darn it, what luck I have. lol

Ah well...a new Jurai shall rise from the ashes! O_O Only real pain in the butt thing is that my friend codes are all gone now.

Everything is in english, and I really dont understand what to do..

I downloaded rain10b, I want to extract my gamesave from Advance Wars and Animal Crossing, along with Mario Kart.

What do I do? I have M3 with CF, FlashMe v6.

I want the AWDS gamesave to load maps, the AC one to.. cheat.. and the Mario Kart to load the other 12 tracks without losing my gamesave.

Anyone want to point me to an english tutorial?

#67645 - ReRuss - Thu Jan 19, 2006 7:32 pm

you shouldnt cheat at ACWW mmmkay
