DS Misc > PointyRemote 'vnc'-like test

#68006 - telephasic - Sun Jan 22, 2006 12:03 am

NOT my application.

http://www.1emulation.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16859&st=0

I have not been able to get it to work yet. The .nds freezes on my flashme v6.

Good proof of concept though for those that have got it to work.

#68027 - Dudu.exe - Sun Jan 22, 2006 2:51 am

Ok.. now i am reeeealy impressed.. if the test version can do this.. i cant hardly wait for a final version workinf over the internet

Does anyone know what port this program uses? I'm trying to get it to connect to a remote PC.

Its a bit hard to use right now... have to zoom out and zoom back in to update the screen.. makes minesweeper kinda hard :P

Aside from that, the inability to move the screen without zooming in/out, and some input issues, its a pretty good start. It'll be nice to see this in a few more versions.

I got it up and running on my flash card (I needed to append dsloader.bin, d'oh!).

I was able to successfully post to some forums using it. Still very rough around the edges, but a great sign for what is to come.

If the features of this, ds2key and win2ds were combined...

#68060 - Sektor - Sun Jan 22, 2006 6:47 am

It uses port 9999.

Here's a picture of PointyRemote viewing gbadev.org

#68066 - The 9th Sage - Sun Jan 22, 2006 7:17 am

Hm, must be something that I am missing as far as configuring it. I assume it configures exactly the same as any other app that uses UDP Test as it's base? Connect to the access point, next screen is the IP settings for the DS itself, then pick UDP test, then the IP to connect to....

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. :P I've gotten all other WiFi apps to work so far. It's too bad, I'm totally curious about this.

Actually, just tap 'A' again. It updates without zooming out. I've been using trillian on my ds all day. =D

I'm loving this. I'm glad it's only a demo, cause I do get random server app freezing, and not all the characters on the keyboard are supported yet. However, other than that, I've been sitting in the living room running my PC ever since I got it.

#68075 - Pinesal - Sun Jan 22, 2006 9:06 am

I don't understand. I can connect to wifi games but I can't connect with this. There are no instructions on how to do this are there? I can get it to connect.

So I just launch the program on my PC then try to connect on the DS app? What network settings am I suppose to use?

I keep getting "ASSOCSTATUS_CANNOTCONNECT"

EDIT: I got it to connect but the app doesn't seem to do anything. I get garbling on the bottom and the top is says

touch
release
etc.

Is that all it does?

#68086 - Sylfurd - Sun Jan 22, 2006 11:57 am

Try to disable WEP encryption :)

#68105 - Xgame - Sun Jan 22, 2006 2:32 pm

i have an M3 sd; if i lounch it near my computer i get ASSOCSTATUS_CANNOTCONNECT; if i go near my AP i get connected; so, in the touch screen the top half are black, wile the bottom are the bottom part of my M3 background.
my AP have wep key and MAC addres autentication(and AP know my Mac address); for get the screen i' ve no put wep key.
can someone help me?
and how to connect to a site?
EDIT
Can i connect directly to an access point(without wep key?)
Must i use Server.exe?
how Must i set the 1st an the 2nd argument?
why i get "connected!" and after i get a bugged screen?

#68123 - lambi1982 - Sun Jan 22, 2006 7:09 pm

AWESOME, really Awesome.........

Now we need a single nds file with all of the DS->PC apps..

I guess after all of the are worked out

you guys, when you get a bugged screen, you need to start pushing buttons..like B, or A.. it will update the screen and will show graphics..that will show that it's working.

It's a new program, there's bound to be problems with it.

Here are things to make sure of:

Make sure server.exe is running
Make sure you are not using WEP on your wifi network
Make sure you are directing the destination IP to the right computer, your computer with the server running

There are many factors to consider..If you got the past Wifi programs working, setting this up is a breeze.

Anyone happen to got this working on a Supercard? I did get DS2Win and DS2Key to work properly, but this one hangs at the title screen (choice between Wardriving, etc). Any specific loaders needed?

#68142 - Pinesal - Sun Jan 22, 2006 8:20 pm

Ok for those having some problems. I maneged to connect for sure because I can type on my computer and move the mouse.

My problem was the FIRST IP address you enter when you are setting up is suppose to be your DSs IP. After you connect it asks for a destination IP that's your computer's IP.

I can move the mouse and type with this program but all I see on the bottom screen is half of the M3 menu and some garbled gree stuff. So I'm not all working yet.

#68144 - AnalogMan - Sun Jan 22, 2006 8:42 pm

I'm using a Supercard SD. Just make sure to use the .ds.gba file and rename it. I had no problems on the DS end, most of the time the server program froze though.

And to those with garbled screens, you need to press A or B to update it. As for M3, I haven't known of anyone trying it on that, so it may be an issue with M3. Can anyone say they have 100% working on M3?

Hmm... did you run the the app through the M3 game maneger or something? because I didn't.

Got any idea what I'm doing wrong?

#68155 - falcon!!! - Sun Jan 22, 2006 9:50 pm

i run the app by clicking A on the m3 menu...
when the app starts I do have some graphics bug but as I click on TODO or PORCION it gets ok.
It seems a bit slower then on gbamp, and I think it's better to click on the pc instead on A or B on the DS (talking about m3)

On gbamp it's ok also with A and B from DS

#68158 - Pinesal - Sun Jan 22, 2006 10:03 pm

Nah, doesn't do anything.

What M3 firmware do you have?

EDIT: I don't see a picture with GBAMP either.

EDIT 2: I got it to work! I gave my DS and IP address that was lower. I changed it from 189 to 11. Hee hee.

Using a SD version myself too. My zip only came with the .nds... After realising this I added the ndsloader.bin as someone before suggested: works like a charm now (still odd that it did load, but crashed at the title screen).
Didn't freeze for me yet, and been running it for over an hour now.

The reason behind this is probably because your wireless router itself is probably set to a limit of say, 150 DHCP clients..or something of the sort.

I'll usually give my DS an IP address of 192.168.1.105 whereas my computer is 192.168.1.101

I mention this because it's always a good idea to understand WHY things don't work :)

Sorry, I got two wifi progs at around the same time, and I keep forgetting only one had the .gba version.

#68186 - CubeGuy - Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:55 am

Using the Trillian minimal skin, it's easy to get it to show a lot on the ds screen.

It seems to load fine on my GBAMP/Flashme, but the pc image only seems to update or zoom once.
And nothing is actualy controllable on my pc.

(it is the right pc, because the image is my screen)

#68190 - CubeGuy - Mon Jan 23, 2006 1:15 am

It's a bit odd. The nds file translates drags as separate touches, but only transmits the final release.

So your problem may be that you need to use a quick tap, and don't forget to hit 'A' after doing so to refresh our view.

You can only control the PC when zoomed in.

This would be cool: (just dreaming of possibilities)
Code:
Top      max view (Wire square shows where Zoomed view is pointed)
Bottom   Zoomed view

Touch Screen   Edges of screen Scroll (move where zoomed view is looking)
               Normal mouse operation
Tap on screen is Left Click

D-Pad      Scroll (move where zoomed view is looking)

Start      Windows/Flag Key

Right Trigger   Right Mouse button

Left Trigger
Single Click   Right Mouse button then Esc key & changes DS to a 'Text Mode' where
Touch Screen   Left Click is held from when stylus touches workspace on screen to when it is removed
Zoom bar appears on RHS of touch screen window
      D-Pad          Scroll for active window
      Right          Trigger Copy/Paste

Double Click   Allows for Handwriting recognition or keyboard pops up for entry (For now you could cheat and just have                   it run using XP?s hand writing functions that come with MS Office)

Really Start, A, B, X & Y would be free assignment keys with the app on the PC being able to interpret them as quick launch buttons too.

And well I can but wish for:

Button config?s sent from PC to DS:
The PC app config having a list of exe?s & Button config?s for each. When it detects you are focused on any app in the list, then it passes the corresponding button configuration set to the DS (weather automatically or by asking for your permission - with say hold Left Trigger to bypass this). For example if a media player is focused on and is in the list the DS remaps L & R become FF & Rewind, A becomes Play/Pause, B Stop, Left & Right D-Pad skip tracks, etc

Microphone connection to PC, for dictation & voice control (all done via external PC programs probably)

Sound output to DS

Sorry I?m just day dreaming here?lol Awesome DS remote dumb terminal

PS Nice app just awesome for the DS

w00t that was my prob i feel so stupid just to be fancy im nowhere near my laptop now huh this thing isnt showing my periods punctuation and all that

*edit*
Back to the laptop, PointyRemote wasn't sending outputting any of the punctionation I entered in that sentence...is anyone else having this problem or is it just me? Anyway, now that I've got it working, this is pretty neat. I see a lot of potential in something like this. Even at this early stage it'd be good for keeping tabs on a download or a video that you are reencoding (MoonShell perhaps?).

This is odd. The new version at least works as a .ds.gba (previously stopped at waiting for Arm7 init). The screen however still gives just the green garbage at the top of the screen, but the "text to send" function works. I keep wondering if this is related to the screen resolution or refresh rate in some way. Anyone got any advice..?

#68347 - falcon!!! - Mon Jan 23, 2006 10:36 pm

OMG! THIS LAST VERSION IS DAMN GOOD!

The update speed is very fast (almost 4 fps) and I can almost stream my videos to the ds! There are no color bugs and I can do almost anything with this! The fact that I can rapidly switch between the two screen makes it very faster to navigate!
thank you Pointless!!!!!!!!!!

(and now pc no more runs slow like before!!)

Are you talking about 0.000011a? In terms of speed, it's scarcely better than the first version for me. 2fps, max, and only at low screen resolutions (< 640x480). I suppose it's just my crappy computer...

While on the subject, I wonder how long it'll be before someone makes an actual video streaming app? Using MoonLight's DPGenc server-side and DPGdec client-side might work well for video streaming.

#68426 - falcon!!! - Tue Jan 24, 2006 2:46 pm

is there a way to do the right click?

#68454 - falcon!!! - Tue Jan 24, 2006 6:57 pm

if the last version doesnt work on m3., append it to a loader.bin (to make ds.gba) and it will work ;)

also, i've added zoom control
with x and y you'll change the magnitude (in your ds)
to update it on the server, so it can be used, tap the touch screen in GRAL mode
just try it
i think that now it's a usable program

Not your fault, he didn't link to the new file very well on the DS WIFI boards, either.

Server.exe keeps crashing for me, problem with kernl32.exe or something.
