moonshell is updated to a new beta version. since ogg is now supported in this beta... more room on the compact flash card :p

I thought OGG support was unlikely? Heheh, I guess things change quickly.
Good release, but IT playback is still abnormal. If he can simply figure out the problem there, things would be perfect. :) I'm very happy with this program now. Does the PSP even have a program this versitile?

In case anyone's wondering, I'm having some computer problems so the MS customizer is going to be a bit. I should have it working for the next major release. Full details HERE.

Well, my Moonshell Settings Editor is already in later beta stage, beta3 is already being tested by Moonlight. The only thing left to do is graphical preview of Moonshell color scheme. Other features are completely useable, including multilanguage interface :) Expect release soon. Hmm, maybe with Moonshell 0.6 ? ;)
#58406 - tssf - Sun Oct 23, 2005 8:23 am
I feel the need to mention a couple things after using Moonshell 0.5 most of the tonight:
-After playing a bunch of OGGs, I found I was unable to play certain IT files due to MoonShell being "out of memory." These IT files play properly when MoonShell is freshly booted, so perhaps there's a memory leak.
-The backlight is still turning itself back on when the lid is closed when a new song is played
-an Impulse Tracker (IT) file still doesn't play its order lists/pattern rows properly..though I mentioned that before.
This is sitll in beta so of course, I'm just letting ya know of any bugs I may have found. :)
Also, I personally think you should remove the "PlayControl..." part, and simply have the song name in the bar, rather than have it in it's 8.3 character format. It just looks better, in my opinion. It could possibly be hard, but perhaps you could make something that will catch the song name variables for each library and toss it right into that little bar there..
Anyway, awesome release, I'm thrilled about all these features MoonShell has. It's like a portable WinAmp..much more versitile than even the more expensive mobile music players on the market today.

Thank you for the report.
The bug that the memory leak exists in the OGG decipherment was confirmed.
It is correcting it now.
There is a bug in the sequence control of IT synth. The reason is uncertain. I want to cure it.
I want to display the long filename and the internal organs title text, etc. in the title of the PlayControl window. I Wish.
However, Unicode, a regional language, and ROM font, etc. have of ..profundity.. consideration necessity.
It thinks by the further version though it is not implemented by Version0.5.
very very thanks report!!

The NDSROM start of FlashCart is not supported.
It builds it in if the method is open to the public.

MoonLight, did you make your own IT/S3M player using a modplug library on the internet? or did you implement someone elses?
Me, being around since the IT format was created (and talking with the author, Jeffrey Lim, a *lot*..infact I'm probably the reason why the first IT player was even made, heh) ..I HATE Modplug. It's so unstandard, doesn't sound right, and it seriously over-loads the CPU.
I have to recommend this library here: http://mikmod.raphnet.net/ Mikmod is so much better, and I'm not just saying that because Jake Stine and I were the first to actually MAKE an IT player. :P
I think that source would be great because you could have amazing IT, S3M, MOD, XM, ...*any* kind of classic mod format relatively quickly and easily, with little CPU usage and the like. It would be perfect for DS, and MoonShell.

For the final release could you update the dmv encoder to allow encoding at 19 fps? because 20fps causes skipping about every 10 frames or so but 18 runs flawlessly so i'd like to see if it can handle 19fps. I'd also recommend updating the interface so that it reads 256x192>18 max fps.
edit: it wont boot on my gbampv2 but works on the m3

the maximum means that it drops frames on anythink above that. it doesnt actually do 24fps if you play a video on the previous version it tells you each time theres a dropped frame

I started C language one year ago. At that time, GBA was used.
Therefore, I do not have the knowledge such as Windows/C etc at all.
I wanted MOD. It was most famous libmikmod to find to the start. It was very difficult.
MakeFile cannot be read and written. Configure and autoconf cannot be understood.
I gave it up because I was incompetent.
However, because even I incompetent was able to build it in, libmodplug was adopted.
It does because of the above.

for dmvenc, maybe you could save the encoded dmv file to the same location as where the dmvenc.exe is, or a specified location. Exact same thing is happening to me, and I changed absolutely nothing in the global.ini. That displays on the top screen, and the bottom screen is frozen.

Darkain's MultiNDS front end, and loader back end, can be found in the old ndslib CVS repository. However, several things will need to be changes in order to make it work with the new libnds, and new versions of devkitarm.
ndslib CVS:

the main cpp file itself:

Actually, Impulse Tracker (IT) support does not crash. It just loads slowly. I do not mind it.
Panning in Impulse Tracker (IT) is inaccurate, but I think that is MikMod's fault.
Does this library have Dynamic Voice control? I know Jake Stine put it in some time ago. WinAmp has it called "Max Voices" in the configuration. Can you add that to global.ini also? That way a person could configure MikMod to only use 16 channels at most to keep CPU load down.
MikMod sounds BETTER than ModPlug, for that I am sure!
I am so happy! Domo Arigato Moonlight! :D
Enjoy your rest. :)

Did anyone get to the bottom of the problem where some people can't start up Moonshell as _BOOT_MP.NDS, but can still use it if it's openned up by a bootloader?
That's happening for me...
Using PassMe and hacked GBAMP... If I put Moonshell as _BOOT_MP.NDS, I get the two white screens. If I use GBAMP Multiboot to open up Moonshell, it works fine.
Version 0.5 appears to have trouble running .txt files...
I tried to read a .txt file, it openned, but all I got was gobbledegoop...

I really have no problems with TXT files, or anything of the sort. I have't tried booting as _BOOT_MP.NDS but what if you tried copying all your files to your hard drive, reformatting, replacing all the files, then defragging your compact flash?
I remember something about chism's driver not booting unless the flash is defragged..but wasn't that supposed to be resolved?
Regardless, it could simply be a problem with your compact flash. Defrag, chkdsk it, etc. I've had no problems with moonshell and I actually bought this compact flash at a refurbishing place. I use a 1 gigabyte compact flash. It's the best thing in the world. :D

The problem is definietly not in the text files, as they are read properly by the TXTViewer in GBAMP Multiboot... I'll try defragging though, and see if that helps.

I'm simply including the text files in the IMFS until the issue with reading them off the card is resolved.
In the moonshell folder, under "files" I made a subfolder for my ebooks, slapped them all in there, and then went up one level to run WriteFiles_IMFS.bat. The shell script generates a new _BOOT_MP.nds in the main folder to be dropped onto the card.
The text files are included in the .nds binary, which counters a lot of the convenience of being able to use a CF card, as one has to update the "files" folder and rerun the script upon each change. As a temporary workaround, though, it's more than bearable.
For reference, my current version of moonshell is "20051026_moonshell05"

When I convereted a 175 MB .avi file it resulted in a wooping 325 MB large .dmw file which won't fit on my CF Card. What are the optimal settings I should use in the dmw software to make the converted file to reach a size that matches the original? Any thoughts on that?
#58853 - tssf - Wed Oct 26, 2005 8:05 pm
Lower the framerate, lower the display area of the video, lower the channel amount of the audio (Change it to Mono)
Uhh.. there are other things you can do, but keep in mind that the codec in the AVI is probably a lot more complex than the compressions that DMVenc uses.
There are solutions, though. 1 gigabyte compact flashes are fairly cheap these days, depending on where you buy them. (Stay away from the big retail stores like Best Buy) Or, you could use the GBA side of the GBAMP to view the video, using GBAlpha's software.

I converted a 4MB WMV file to DMV, and it ended up being over 32MB. The same file using the Crystal Engine was 5MB. So, for videos, I still use the GBA MP's own video player.

wmv are smaller than avi.
Even if u converted that wmv into avi it would be bigger,.

Does this library have Dynamic Voice control? I know Jake Stine put it in some time ago. WinAmp has it called "Max Voices" in the configuration. Can you add that to global.ini also? That way a person could configure MikMod to only use 16 channels at most to keep CPU load down. |
Yes. It is possible.
I had forgotten the limitation of the number of channels.
If it is possible to do. I want to limit the number of voices only when CPU is insufficient. Dynamic channel control?
However, I will add the MaxVoiceCount item for the time being.
I am really glad to be pleased.

ARM is originally impossible.
A peculiar instruction set to a diskless reading and ARM was remodeled.
However, some trouble might still be found.

The bug that doesn't start with single NDSROM is not confirmed.

send me the text file that there is a problem in the text viewer.

Moonshell, I can't change the background desktop in the new version.

Method adopted by me.
1. your.bmp copy to files/.shell/desktop.bmp
2. Execute WriteFiles_IMFS.bat
3. _BOOT_MP.nds copy to CF.
IMFS adopts the compression filesystem.
Possibly. A complex image might not enter IMFS.
ChangeCodePage/chgimfs/imfs128kb.nds copy to _BOOT_MP.nds
change IMFS reserved area 64kb to 128kb.

When I convereted a 175 MB .avi file it resulted in a wooping 325 MB large .dmw file which won't fit on my CF Card. What are the optimal settings I should use in the dmw software to make the converted file to reach a size that matches the original? Any thoughts on that? |
The DMV format is accurate and high frame rate and very very large size format.
DMV1 adopted in the past.
The size is small in mpeg style original format.
However, 3fps was a limit.
It is a limit in my technology. I'm sorry.

when I put my .bmp to files/.shell/desktop.bmp, and click writefiles_imfs.bat. It gave me a error measage.

Please rename it after copy.
From imfs128kb.nds to _BOOT_MP.nds.
Execute WriteFiles_IMFS.bat after that.
When writing in the DOSBatch style.
c:\MoonShell>copy ChangeCodePage\chgimfs\imfs128kb.nds _BOOT_MP.nds

I'm sorry in a Japanese message.
The work log remains in wintools/IMFS_WriteNDS.log.
Please teach it.

Further observation shows that it only has trouble with text files that I have placed there myself. If I copy readme.txt to Main/eBooks, that copy will be read by Moonshell as gobbledygoop. Readme.txt in the Files directory works fine, as does the readme in IMFS/shell.

Can u change any setting so that you can determine where the time/date bar will appear ? Is there any way to reduce the size of the DMV files that are outputted by the converter?

my local language mode.
cp932.bat / shift-jis / Japanese (Shift-JIS)

It is normal operation if becoming this screen.

Non-display setting of the window is possible.
However, the position of the window cannot be specified.
If zlib is specified with Compress Type of DMV, it becomes small a little.
However, because the decompression is slow, maximum fps falls.

Ogg is a codec that is heavier than mp3.
When the START button is pushed during playback, the decipherment log is displayed.
The only action method is only to encode ogg again by the low bit rate.
P.S.
When the background image is made 256(8bit) colors, capacity is a little.
Converts it from 24bit color into 8bit color.
It is likely to enter 64kb(default size), too.

#59005 - Mr. Picklesworth - Thu Oct 27, 2005 11:47 pm
Yes, I get the first one with the readme when it is read properly. However, it will read the entire thing as junk if I place it somewhere myself. This junk usually has a lot of spacing.

One universal way is to open the BMP in MSPaint.
The "File->Save as..." dialog has a filetype dropdown that lets you save bitmaps of varying color depth.

I think it would be a good idea to show a picture from a camera if at all possible. Do you have a digital camera you can take a picture with?

In addition to that problem, I've noticed if I open a small text file that displays correctly (minus the last character), then leave and open another text file, then the two text files are displayed together with the last character of the first text file showing.
