DS Misc > PointyRemote Question

#74723 - vb_master - Tue Mar 07, 2006 3:45 am

Does the PointyRemote server install anything when ran? I don't like things that might modify my registry.

Did you press B so that the screens refresh?

Pressing B doesn't help. Do I need to open port 8888?
Also - I'm not entirely sure if my router is a DNS server. Should I try DHCP IP (which I have) and a manual DNS?

I have a Linksys WRT54G, and it's stock, no changes.

If you're unsure, click on Start -> Run -> and type "cmd"

Once the command prompt is open, type "ipconfig /all"

You'll see gateway, DNS, and everything.

Port 8888 should be open, and all traffic should be allowed, be sure to disable stuff like the pesky windows firewall, and norton internet security or blackice

Should I open the port in my router, what should I do?

I didnt need to open any ports in my router, but if it makes you feel safer, then do.

I meant to say that you should open and remove Windows firewalls, and open port 8888 there.

#74846 - vb_master - Wed Mar 08, 2006 3:25 am

Windows and McAffe are all allowing server.exe. Still two black screens...

I have DHCP for IP on my router. What should I do about DS IP? I have selected an open IP, and it works for DS Linux.

If I send text, the screen in use changes to a block of matrix looking code.

I'm at a complete loss. I know Win2DS won't work because of no WEP.

Update: (sorry for not editing, this deserves a new post).

I've tried every possible combination of things. I've turned off all firewalls, and nothing happens. Two black screens.

Could it possibly be that I'm using a wireless connection on this laptop? Should I try a LAN computer now?

No, wireless is enough as long as each has a different IP.

I havent used pointy remote in a while, but If I recall correctly, the.se are the instructions:

Turn on Server.exe thingie
Open Command Prompt and type "IPconfig /all"
Grab your NDS and execute pointyremote.nds or .ds.gba
Configure your access point, set IP similar to your computers (example, if you PC is 192.168.0.1, then set your DSIP as 192.168.0.X), set the mask same as your PC's (normally its 255.255.255.0), set your gateway same as your pc's, and DNS same as provided from IPconfig /all.

Finally, click on Connect on the DS. it should connect automagically, and if not, press B or Start or A or X or Y :P

Connects to AP, but displays two black screens. Did I meantion if you press select the current screen displays green text (unlegible).
I just found someone that had the same problem, and I found the answer!

Yeah, Pointy said that.

Open both just to be sure, but its most definitely UDP, knowing that TCP doesnt work yet ;)

Just tried all that, still doesn't work... I'm gonna give up now.

If you have WEP enabled it's not going to work. DHCP also doesn't work right now.

Dont you hate it when the most obvious answer hits you right in the face because you simply skipped over it?

Umm, sorry to inform you "Sektor", but PointyRemote supports WEP and DHCP.

DSlinux is the only homebrew with WEP/DHCP support. All other apps use sgstair's lib and that doesn't support WEP/DHCP yet. You can choose WEP and DHCP in the PointyRemote menu but they aren't functional right now.
