Hi .. sorry for the noob question, but could the results of this library be used to send ds demos (or homebrew games) to a ds that doesn't have a flashcard/flashme setup, ie. the ds download and play on a regular ds and from a computer with any wifi card?
Hope that makes sense.

This is a question that you could answer yourself. This is a programing lib. It is used to make use of the DS's wifi.

well, the DS tunnelling turned out to be more difficult than I thought it might be at first - but it is still possible. I'm presently working on a rewrite of the entire program, so it's going to take some time still (And it's not my primary project yet either)
So please be patient, as I do plan to finish it :)

I would love to see non-WiFi games be usuable as multi-player like system link on Xlink Kai...
would be awsome
or somthin similer anyway...
web browsing however... probably not the greatest feature in my opinion , but I would love to see a full function player for Flash and Shockwave (not so much for game playin, but for videos that may have some interactivity (like clicking on play , play again , ect))

Ha-HA! With some help from a friend I've finally discovered why WEP wasn't working in my lib! Needless to say, WEP will be correctly working in the next release. Speaking of next releases, I'm nearly complete with DNS and TCP, so I'm going to try to release something in 2 days (that's Saturday) with DNS, TCP, WEP, and maybe even DHCP (depends on how little time I waste being lazy). There are some other more subtle improvements coming in this release too, I'm sure you'll all appreciate it :)
Also, since this friend has been working on reverse engineering the wifi chipset further than I have, I'll be integrating a number of his findings into my documentation soon, which will give some insight into some of the presently undocumented hardware and will clarify a number of areas that are presently somewhat documented. Keep watching for updates, though, idling in #dswifi on EFnet is a better way to know instantly when I have actually released something ;)

Same here!
Sad to know DHCP wont be up for a while (I need DHCP for the school network), but other than that, its a great improvement!
Now, whats left to be done is DSTunneling!
#74237 - tssf - Fri Mar 03, 2006 8:01 pm
Actually, if he stays on schedule and stops being lazy, then it can be included ;)
How hard is DHCP to implement anyway?

For captive portals, you may need at least a basic implementation of HTTP, HTTPS, HTML, CSS, GIF, JPEG, and PNG.

Excellent. Once all that is complete, he might be able to switch gears and focus on getting Ad-Hoc working. That would be great!

Nah, not really if you posted that as a response to the school wifi post I made.
They force DHCP, which means I just cant assign my IP since it might already be taken, however I tried forcing it to my laptops and it seemed to work for a few secs before dropping.
I dont think the school net uses captive portals, because i dont need to see any webpage or anything, I just select the AP and thats it.
Speaking of APs, my laptop sees 1 access point called "UTM", however, the DS goes crazy and sees around 20, all named UTM, some with high signal an others with near-zero, or zero. I usually select the highest signal one, but whats up with that? I dont think the school has 20 routers (2, maybe 4, but 20?) so any idea? I know this thing is sensitive, but woah!

Yes, in this case the school *does* have 20 :)
I'm working on a better way to keep connected, that will be in the next version or maybe later.

Thats crazy! 20 APs and still a s**ty connection in all the campus!
Well, how come Laptops only see one UTM AP, and the DS see (around) 20?
Anyways, good work with the lib, We really appreciate all the job and effort you made.

Mainly because my system sniffs unique APs rather than just showing seperate networks :)
my system presently just sniffs the beacons and doesn't combine APs, so you see all of them.

Also, does it support 128 bit WEP yet?
#74460 - HyperHacker - Sun Mar 05, 2006 9:11 am
Here's hoping. :-)
Nushio, I wonder if that might be related to the fact that DS2Key's wifi sniffer picks up nearby DSes connected to NWFC.

*Stephen kicks "HyperHacker"*
Sheesh, there are still people who think the wifi sniffer was part of ds2key? (-sigh-)
and, it picks up DSes connected to WFC? well, it'll pick up a DS hosting a game, and it'll pick up a Nintendo USB stick, but I seriously doubt it'll pick up a DS connected to WFC.

It'll also pick up Pictochatting DSs, and a PSP in ad-hoc mode.

Regarding NDS as AP...
When a NDS connects to the AP, does it turn into an AP named after the AP it was connected to?
(If NDS1 connects to UTM, will NDS2 see it as UTM as well?)
And Stephen, I cant belive people think DS2Key (or PointyRemote) made the AP sniffer :P
Anyways, I guess everything explains itself now, there are probably several APs at my campus spread all around, and the DS picks up Laptops and other devices (such as the NDS or PSP) as APs.
The reason for the bolding, is because I dont belive there are 20 Nintendo DS and/or PSPs in my school. (So far I've seen 4 NDS and 0 PSPs, and out of those 4 NDS, one is mine, another is a friend's who never turns it on, and the other 2 could be picked up as APs)
#74564 - sgstair - Sun Mar 05, 2006 11:47 pm
yes, it does pick up pictochatting DSs (regardless of what it looks like, one of the DSs *is* hosting the game)
No, when a NDS connects to an AP, it does not turn into an AP (the only thing my sniffer is picking up is beacons, which are only sent by a station attempting to have other stations connect to it)
the DS will pick up a laptop or other device if: the laptop is configured to use an ad-hoc network and has been sending beacons. (some network cards do this even when they are connected to an AP, very odd)
however, the system as is will *not* pick up any devices connected to an AP as being one of those APs, it will *only* pick up devices that are acting as an AP, in transmitting beacons.
(well, actually the 802.11 standard does allow for devices connected to an AP to send beacons for that AP too, hmm - I'll check my code on that one though because I don't think it will pick up the other devices as APs.)

March 6, 2006: That'll teach *ME* to set deadlines :) (5 am)
Ok, well - In case you hadn't noticed I haven't released an updated lib yet. As it stands, I spent too much time doing other things, and am pretty well booked for the next few days as well. I have made a lot of progress, but I'm not ready to release it yet, so well, hang around and it'll be ready before long (next weekend perhaps? Agh! I'm setting deadlines again -_-)
[If you wanna follow along with my progress, I'll be occasionally releasing updates to the test app at the nonstandard location of wifi_test_lib_.nds - this *presently* includes WEP support (of 64 and 128 bits), and a lot of half-done stuff. (many menu items don't work at the moment, but will be completed and enabled before release.)]
|
I've tested the most recent wifi_test, but it hangs on "Waiting for ARM7 to init". I've got an M3 CF on firmware V6.
Anyway, I'm very interested in the WEP support, anyone can confirm that it works?

As usual, if it doesn't work, prepend a loader.... I'm not sure why the ndstool loader screws up so bad for so many people :(
Also, I can verify WEP works (I've tested it :D) but you probably want someone other than me, I suppose :)

i can almost garantee thats due to the latest firmware on the m3, its very buggy and breaks quite a few things. my wifi app doesnt work on the m3 either when i use the latest firmware, i have to use my gbamp instead.

The built in loader doesn't clear RAM.
The prepended loader and the GBAMP loader do clear RAM.
Devkitarm had a bug where not all of the .bss section was set to zero.
Check you're using the fixed link script.
If you still have a problem then it's your code that's at fault.

I tried to launch it using MultiNDS, but I've got the same problem (stuck on "Waiting for ARM7 to init")...
For the WEP support, I'm sure that you've tested it, but as it didn't work for me on DSLinux (whereas without WEP the wifi works well) I prefer to have third party confirmation ;)
