i hope DS AIM comes out...who want MSN?
i hope he releases the source code, because when its done i doubt it would be too hard to convert to other im networks
#75376 - shaz - Sun Mar 12, 2006 4:45 pm
I cant wait till I get a hold of this...
One of the reasons why DS is good!

What about Gaim DS? Gaim pretty much has support for all IM programs.

"Goshdammit, the DS is not a Gaim-boy! It's a third pillar!"

There's a download link to "it" on the main page, but I don't have a homebrew'd DS anymore.
http://thoduv.free.fr/p/dsmsn/dsmsn10032006.zip
I wouldn't trust it though.

AIM is for the AOL users. No wonder it has so many members.
#75419 - Darkflame - Sun Mar 12, 2006 8:42 pm
MSN and AOL both suck. :p
At least, the official clients do.
Either way though, I dislike MSN because it cant "save" messages when people are offline, for them to view when they get back online.
(probably the way the severs are set up).
I find this tremendiously useful feature.
Anyway ,seems natural for MSN and AIM to be worse precisely because they are both given out with other software which lots of people have.
Other competitors have to work harder, and actually make better stuff, in order to get people using them.
Personaly, I think a multi-protocal DS client wouldnt be much harder then just doing one protocal anyway.
Someone will make one.
The big challenge is speed of input...we need preditive imput, maybe something like dasha too.

Of course you can: it's called e-mail. Every MSN Passport account is associated to an Internet e-mail address.

Especially given that libgaim already supports major protocols.

the next version of MSN (version 8, currently in beta and sometimes called Windows Live Messenger) supports offline messages. its still a shame that you have to pay for alot of the extra services (messaging to mobiles, extra content), but its interface looks a bit nicer now
i heard from someone tha microsoft is listed as an official nintendo developer, so i'm wondering if they'll put out an MSN/internet package on DS at some point...although i'd still prefer the opera browser

Pretty much opposite for me. I'm never on MSN. Pretty much everyone on my MSN list probably has AIM. Besides, everyone I know in real life uses AIM. And BTW, AIM is a majority non-AOL users, I'd imagine.

This can be overcome with Opera, if it supports Javascript, there are several "webmessengers" out there already.
#75481 - tssf - Mon Mar 13, 2006 8:31 am
MSNDS will also be a good tool later on this year if it is finished, for yahoo users. Since MSN and Yahoo buddy lists will soon be compatible with one another, much like ICQ and AIM buddy lists can communicate with each other.
Now, if everyone just made their systems linked, then no one would have these "this and that is better" arguments. :)

you dont need javascript or something for http://mob.e-messenger.net
this is the SIMPLEST version of msn :)
1 problem is.. that retawq couldnt redirect the link after you logged in..
if it worked, you could chat on msn with retawq (DSLinux)
just try it on your pc
http://mob.e-messenger.net
you will see what I want to say :)

I think that sums up microsoft products well;
You upgrade because the interface looks nicer.
You pay extra for usefull freatures :p
(eg, Vista, and then a year or two later, Vista with all the sutff they left out because they couldnt make the first launch :p)

Woot, I'm also writing an MSN client. But mine is on early stages still :)
#75507 - A2hok - Mon Mar 13, 2006 6:35 pm
It would be really usefull to have any sort of an IM client, MSN of AIM or ICQ or Yahoo. Can somebody whose skillfull enough code this? Is Sgstair's TCP wifi lib needed?

Where did you hear MSN and Yahoo were going to link? I know they were both part of some "unified IM" thing, but that was formed before 2000, IIRC, and nothing ever happened with it.

Yahoo had an announcement about it once maybe a month back.
I'll see if I can find an article.
